Enjoyed presenting to the FDA yesterday on the expanding opportunity to unleash innovation towards a home-based healthcare ecosystem. Thanks for the invite Joseph (Joe) Smith, MD, PhD and BD! The delivery of care can be transformed to center around the patient (and their home) as science and technology continues to demonstrate the immense benefits of doing so. The market (hindered by status-quo culture and payment models for years) is emerging to develop many products and services that will better meet the quintuple aim of healthcare by doing so. I highlighted the great article below https://lnkd.in/eAQscTtF by colleagues Bruce Leff Christine Ritchie Charles (Chuck) T. Pu. MD, FACP, CMD that helps outline the diverse home-based care models. Of course, high acuity care and some chronic care will still require the centralized societal resources found in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, etc. but much care can be decoupled from facilities through the use of technology, new operational workflows, and passionate clinicians, administrators, and policymakers. I have great hope for the future as we work together to build momentum towards a home-based care ecosystem! #fda #homebasedcare #futureofcare #healthtech #patientsfirst #quintupleaim #valuebasedcare #remotepatientmonitoring #telemedicine #virtualcare #futureofhealthcare #healthsystems

🤖 Huge anouncement as Distalmotion treat the first US patients with the Dexter system. The Dexter Surgical Robot has successfully treated the first U.S. patients in an outpatient setting. Two adult inguinal hernia repairs were completed with Dexter on November 26, 2024. “With over 90 percent of inguinal hernia repairs in the U.S. performed in outpatient and ambulatory surgical settings, there is a need for robotic solutions tailored to these environments” commented Greg Roche, Distalmotion’s CEO. “We are thrilled to demonstrate how Dexter can overcome the traditional barriers of cost, space, and workflow disruption in the outpatient setting, while delivering robotic excellence that elevates surgeon and patient care.” Greg recently joined me on The Surgibots Podcast to discuss US launch and where Distalmotion is heading into 2025 and beyond 🚀 Links in comments. Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) play a crucial role in delivering specialized outpatient surgical care, offering patients convenience and cost-effective treatment alternatives to hospitals. However, one area that can significantly impact the financial performance of ASCs is medical coding. Accurate coding in ASCs is not just a compliance requirement—it directly affects reimbursement, cash flow, and overall financial health. In this blog, we will explore the importance of accurate coding in ASCs, the potential financial consequences of coding errors, and how implementing best practices can safeguard the revenue cycle.
