“𝙏𝙤𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙨 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝” 💡 If you assign two employees to do a task that only needs one, you won’t get it done faster—in fact, it might slow down progress. This is a classic example of the 𝙇𝙖𝙬 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙨. Adding more resources beyond a certain point doesn’t just fail to improve results—it can actually create new obstacles. Consider these scenarios: • Too many doctors in a department can lead to task overlap and confusing communication. • Overcrowding nurses in an operating room makes movement harder, increasing the risk of mistakes. • An excess of staff in management roles can slow decisions with too many meetings and unclear responsibilities. Sometimes, more is simply too much. Finding the optimal level of resources is key to efficiency and success. 🎯 #Leadership #WorkplaceEfficiency #Efficiency #HealthcareManagement #DiminishingReturns #OptimalResources #Productivity #HospitalManagement #Teamwork #OrganizationalEffectiveness

A Thought for Quality and Patient Safety Leaders; "If nothing keeps you up at night, you're probably not doing it right." In our line of work, the quiet hours of the night often bring reflections on our decisions, the welfare of our patients, and the endless pursuit of excellence. It's a role that carries great responsibility—one where complacency has no place. The job demands vigilance, a proactive stance, and an unyielding commitment to continuous improvement. Whether it’s enhancing protocols, training our teams, or implementing the latest in safety technology, there’s always room to grow. The goal? Zero harm. What keeps you up at night, and how do you address these challenges? #QualityImprovement #PatientSafety #HealthcareExcellence #Leadership

How do you “sell safety” to leadership? This is one of the most important questions I often get asked. Because the truth is that safety is not just the right thing to do – it is also the best thing for a business’s bottom line. We need to use every tool we have to help leaders see the value of safety. https://bit.ly/3ZzwxAZ

Just finished my 3rd Zero Harm session with another to do this afternoon. Very good fun, and it reminds me how tiring four solid hours of training in a morning can be. Another four hour session this afternoon will wipe me out for the evening! It's such an important message though so I shall go on! For those of you who know me you may wonder why I am running an H&S programme! What do I know about H&S? (Paul Lightfoot!!) Well the answer lies in the Leadership element of it. My specialist area is Leadership and Management. And this programme is all about the responsibilities leaders have for keeping their teams and everyone else around them safe. I often see that leaders talk a good talk around H&S but their actions speak louder than words. For example simple acts such as walking downstairs whilst looking at emails. Or expecting everyone to be an an MS Teams calls even though you know someone is driving.... Or working through the lunchbreak and sending emails at 10pm. It is no surprise to me when team members feel under pressure to work through lunch breaks, attend a meeting whilst driving down the motorway and are constantly on their phones. The messages have been sent. The leader does it...so must we... If you want to know more about how to address these systemic issues with your managers (I shan't call them leaders here) then please get in touch or click on the link in my profile for a chat about this very important area of Health & Safety. #healthandsafetyleadership #leadershipdevelopment #humanfactorstraining
