Today, we celebrate the incredible achievements and contributions of women around the world. ✨🌍 🌾 In the realm of agriculture and food systems, women play a pivotal role. Women constitute 43% of the agricultural sector, and in the least developed countries, two out of three women are engaged in farming. Their resilience, dedication, and innovation are the driving forces behind sustainable and thriving communities. 💪🌱 Yet, women are more food insecure than men. Women face subpar working conditions compared to men, characterized by irregularity, informality, part-time arrangements, low-skilled tasks, and labor-intensive activities, rendering them financially vulnerable. 💼🌐Empowering women and addressing gender disparities within agrifood systems not only improves the welfare of women and their households but also curbs hunger, increase incomes, and reinforce community resilience. 🌾 Let's acknowledge and appreciate the women who cultivate, nourish, and sustain our world. 🙌🎉🌱 #InvestInWomen #AccelerateProgress #IWD2024

This International Women's Day 2024, our managing director, Gemma Clarke, has been named one of ‘20 Most Influential Women in the European seed sector’ by Seed World Europe. Gemma is passionate about growing the business in line with Cope Seeds & Grain’s vision, ensuring farmers are getting the best varieties and advice for a new era in agriculture. “As a business, we’re excited to be launching new varieties, new contracts, and new industry initiatives to help support British food and farming as we transition to a new subsidy framework and prioritise the environment even more. On being a woman working in a male-dominated industry, Gemma believes tenacity is important. “As a young woman starting out in business, you should be patient, build a stratey and work hard. To maximise your chances of success, figure out exactly what you want to achieve and put a plan in place to accomplish this. However, don’t assume that it will be an easy ride - plans take time and there will be many different hurdles along the way. But if you’re proactive, enjoy the journey and don’t give up, then each difficulty will become a lesson and you’ll come out stronger on the other side. “What’s more, be proud to show your natural skills and use these to your advantage. For example, I have found that my empathy has helped me to build successful teams that are built on compassion and teamwork. “In a world where many women have encountered equality issues in the workplace, I am proud to say that I have always felt very supported by the males in my industry and am judged on merit, not my gender. To achieve this, I would recommend starting out with a positive and inclusive mindset, and always strive to be the best you can be.” Read more here >>> https://lnkd.in/ea8gf9sW #SeedWorldEurope #20Most #InternationalWomensDay #WomensDay #IWD2024

Happy International Women’s Day 2024 to The Unsung Heroes- "Inspire Inclusion," We confront longstanding power imbalances entrenched in patriarchal societies, impacting women farmers globally. Despite the women farmers comprising 60% - 70% of the agricultural labor force, they face multifaceted challenges hindering productivity and contribution to food security. Stemming from Patriarchal norms which limit their access to resources and perpetuate gender-based violence. Service delivery gaps exacerbate these systemic inequalities, including inadequate access to inputs, technologies, and exclusion from decision-making spaces. "Inspire Inclusion" urges systemic change, advocating for equity and amplifying marginalized voices. The need for intentional concerted action by all concerned is implied in the mantra of "Inspire Inclusion". Government leaders and stakeholders must ensure land rights, financial access, and value chain integration for women farmers. Gender-transformative practices and intersectional approaches are key to fostering a just and equitable society. #inspireinclusion #accelerateprogress #iwd2024

What’s #InternationalWomensDay all about anyway? This year, the United Nations has chosen to celebrate #IWD24 under the theme Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. As UN Women points out: “The world is facing many crises, ranging from geopolitical conflicts to soaring poverty levels and the escalating impacts of climate change. These challenges can only be addressed by solutions that empower women. By investing in women, we can spark change and speed the transition towards a healthier, safer, and more equal world for all.” As one of a small but growing number of women-led biotech companies, we couldn’t agree more. Today, we want to celebrate our inspirational CEO Tiffany Thorn, and all the brilliant women on the BiVictriX team, but we also urge you to learn more about this year’s important cause. On this International Women's Day, I want to share some key areas where the UN has said global action is needed related to girls and women: 👩 Investing in women, a human rights issue 👩 Ending poverty: immediate action is crucial to prevent over 342 million women and girls living in poverty by 2030 👩 Supporting feminist change-makers: despite leading efforts, feminist organizations receive only 0.13% of official development assistance 👩 Implementing gender-responsive financing: conflicts and rising prices may lead 75% of countries to cut public spending by 2025, negatively impacting women and their essential services 👩 Shifting to a green economy and care society: advocates propose a shift to a green economy and care society to amplify women's voices Thank you to A Mindful Lawyer, Maitland, Charlotte Hill (夏 洛特), Maria Mulla, Catherine Addy KC, Matthew Purcell, Nikki Edwards and Alison Newcomb for last night's IWD panel discussion. I didn't quite get in ALL the statistics I wanted to when presenting.. so thought I would share here (within reason!!). Optimising Potential #OP #OptimisingPotential #iwd2024
