New York State introduced a bill this week that would require businesses with over $1B in revenues to annually disclose, and to obtain assurance on, scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions starting in 2027. Scope 3 emissions reporting would additionally be required starting in 2028. The 'Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act,' New York Senate Bill 2025-S3456, was introduced on January 27. Washington state and Illinois have proposed similar climate reporting legislation. These proposed bills come on the heels of California's enacted climate reporting laws. The current wave of state-level climate reporting legislation reflects a broader trend as the federal administration looks to revise energy and climate policies. This heightened focus on environmental accountability underscores the need for companies to continuously monitor the evolving landscape of state and local sustainability efforts. #GHGemissions #climatereporting #sustainability #statepolicy

States are once again stepping up to lead on climate to ensure the U.S. makes progress towards its goals. Washington state’s successful climate law – which caps pollution and raises investments for communities – offers a model for other states to follow. “If enough states take action — either on their own or in concert with one another — the United States can still make meaningful progress on climate change anyway. Before any meaningful analysis of usage patterns can occur, measurement is essential. After all, effective management relies on accurate measurement. With Automatic Meter Reading systems, measuring and reporting become effortless, freeing up time for in-depth analysis. This enables the creation of more precise and effective energy strategies. If only I knew of a company that has successfully installed Automatic Meter Reading systems across NI for the last 10 years or so..... 🤔 😉
