The skyrocketing evictions occurring nationwide are having an impact on people and their beloved pets. Overflowing animal shelters have also become a national crisis. The dip in adoptions along with the rise in dog intake from unclaimed strays and owner surrenders is a complete 180 from the surge in adoptions of dogs and cats we saw during the pandemic. According to Shelter Animals Count (SAC), stray dogs taken in by shelters have risen 6% in the January to November 2023 period compared to 2022 and are up a whopping 22% since 2021! Three months into our new strategic plan, and check! Progress being made. Like most strategic plans, the proof's in the pudding. Plans aren't made to sit on a shelf. I'm super proud of the OHS team, who's making sure that doesn't happen. One of the pillars of the new strategic plan is to provide more second changes for all animals - and our community was pretty specific: they're concerned about homeless cats. So, we need to find out more, to figure out how best to help. Ottawa connections - can you help? YOU ONLY NEED ONE MINUTE! To achieve our goal, we've launched a very quick survey about outdoor cats. Well over a thousand responses to date - but our goals are lofty - we want five thousand! Help me out and respond yourself, and share the link! I look forward to sharing the results, both with our community and to the humane sector! https://lnkd.in/dZQp_G_a

THIS is #ReturnToRural Awesome story about Jordan's return to the area and the great things he is doing. With multiple groups taking different approaches to this same idea, the overarching theme is that there is vast opportunity in rural areas. Go take a look and you just might be surprised. Consider making the move and filling that critical job role, moving a business operation that can bring value and job opportunities to the area, or launch that startup you have always dreamed about. Rural is rich in support, community, and resources! JOIN US and truly make positive impact! #returntorural #RuralIsRad #ReimagineRural ***************** Sterling native Jordan Suter believes being involved in the community is the way to bring about change. Suter left Sterling after high school, playing baseball in college while pursuing his degree in biology, and then spent five and a half years as a forensic scientist. It was family ties that inspired his desire to return to his hometown – Suter is the fourth generation on his mom’s side to live here, and the third on his dad’s side – but he didn’t know what he’d be able to do for a career, given his background in biology. Then he got an job offer from Thrivent, which he was familiar with because his family had worked with the financial planning firm. “I was really thankful to be able to do that, because I had always wanted to be around my family and serve this community, but had never really had the opportunity,” he said. Suter moved back about two and a half years ago and jumped right into getting as involved within the community as possible. His own passion for the community shines through when he talks about how he would encourage others to consider living and working in Sterling. He said he’d encourage those from the Front Range and other urban areas to come visit the community and see what it’s about, because he feels that they might have misconceptions about rural Colorado based on clichés that don’t capture the generous spirit of the people here. And for those who moved away but might be open to returning, like him, his plea is more direct: “We need you out here. This community needs more young people… that care and want to make a difference, and you can only make a difference if you get involved.” He is thankful for the opportunities to have an impact on future generations through coaching as well, saying, “Being able to coach high school kids and show them that it is cool to leave, do your thing and go learn about the world, go experience some stuff – there’s nothing wrong with that. But coming home, there’s nothing wrong with that. You can be a good person and care about your community and just serve; that’s the whole point.” “I just want to leave a mark, and hopefully it’s a positive one,” he said.
Honored to be nominated as a “Rising Star in the Northeast Colorado Community”! Better to be rising than falling, as they say. #Recognition #Community #NortheastColorado

Building Better Communities—what does that mean, exactly? To me, it is seeing this: our employee-owners came together to select the organizations we wanted to support, and our clients and friends helped determine how our support would be distributed. The best part is that these three organizations now have more resources to serve their communities.
During our annual Season of Sharing celebration, we supported three community organizations—Wounded Warrior Project, Habitat for Humanity, and The Humane Society of the United States. Based on votes from our clients, partners, and friends, we gave $17,200 to the Wounded Warrior Project, $13,200 to Habitat for Humanity, and $9,600 to the Humane Society. Wishing you a happy holiday season and a joyful new year!

Hey PDX HSP Community, During this month of the colonial holiday of Thanksgiving, we are thinking about how the work of PDX HSP interrelates with calls for repair from the Indigenous Land Back movement. So for our next community event we are grateful to be hosting Jillene Joseph, enrolled member of the Gros Ventre or Aaniiih people, and board member of the Future Generations Collaborative (FGC). We are very excited that Jillene will be hosting us at and sharing about Barbie’s Village, a land back transfer of the former Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church building and the property it sits on. FGC uses the building as a community hub and is developing a tiny home village on the property for houseless Native parents with small children. Where: Barbie’s Village, 935 NE 33rd Ave When: Tuesday, Nov. 26, 7:00–8:30 pm If you plan to attend, please click the link in our bio to RSVP . Light snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. Feel free to bring outside food. This will be a masks optional event. We ask that you stay home if you are experiencing any abnormal symptoms. For more info about PDX HSP, check out our website in the link in our bio. #pdxhousingsolidarityproject #pdx #portland #oregon #black #indigenous #community #allies #reparations #homebuying #firsttimehomebuyer #housing #pdxhsp #events #resources #blackcommunity #indigenouscommunity #nativeamerican #africanamerican #families
