🎃 Halloween Candy Facts That Will Sweeten Your Day! 🍬 As we gear up for Halloween, it's fascinating to delve into the sweet world of candy and its rich history tied to this spooky holiday! Did you know that candy corn, a beloved seasonal treat, was invented in the 1880s and originally called "Chicken Feed"? This colorful candy has become a staple in Halloween festivities, but it’s not the only fan favorite. According to surveys, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups consistently rank as the most popular candy in the U.S., proving that the combination of chocolate and peanut butter is hard to resist! Halloween isn’t just about costumes and trick-or-treating; it’s also a major candy-selling event. Americans spend over $2.6 billion on candy each Halloween! This spending has turned candy into a central element of the celebration, with approximately 90 million pounds of chocolate sold in just one week. The tradition of trick-or-treating itself dates back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, where costumes were worn to ward off spirits—showing how deeply rooted our Halloween customs are in history. So, whether you're indulging in your favorite treats or handing them out to eager trick-or-treaters, take a moment to appreciate the fun facts behind this sugary celebration! Here’s the truth: Halloween candy doesn’t have to be a binge trigger 🎃🍭 (This sounds 😱 scary, I know - but stick with me.) I know it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the idea of all that candy lying around, but when you put it on a pedestal or restrict yourself, it only increases your desire to eat that candy. The same goes if you’re only buying Halloween candy if that you don’t like. [this as well as not purchasing candy until Halloween day were 2️⃣of my time-honored strategies for dealing with Halloween candy.] What if you approach Halloween candy with neutrality? Allowing yourself to enjoy the candy - mindfully - and without guilt? By not making it a “big deal,” you take away candy’s power. After you eat a balanced meal, take a few pieces of candy and put them in a bowl or on a plate, and go sit down and enjoy them. Really taste them – notice the texture, flavors, mouth feel. No guilt. No shame. Just enjoyment - unless you’re choosing to eat Nerds or pop-rocks, in which case you and I need to have a conversation. (📞 me) I invite you to try this every day until Halloween. 📤Share with someone who struggles with having Halloween candy in the house. #bingeeatingrecovery #intuitiveeating #trickortreating

❤️ HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES TO DEEPEN THE CONNECTION WITH YOUR KIDS ----- Halloween can be another great opportunity to have fun playing with new family traditions. There can still be costumes and sweets, but adding fun and creativity can shift the focus from "trick or treat" to family closeness. ----- These are the activities we have already tried with our kids: 1. Have a Halloween sweets hunt/or a toy hunt in your darkened home with flashlights (our personal favourite) 2. Carve pumpkins 3. Bake pumpkin cakes together 4. Decorate your home or garden together 5. Host a Halloween party for your child and their friends, with Halloween-themed food and activities 6. Apply temporary Halloween tattoos 7. Bake spooky muffins ---- And these are some ideas we might try in the future: 1. Work with your child to design and create a costume 2. Work with your child to make a Halloween playlist 3. Play "Bob for Apples" 4. Have a family "Spooky Movie Night" 5. Light candles and tell scary stories in the dark 6. Play Halloween bingo 7. Become mummies using toilet paper 8. Host a ‘Glow in the Dark’ party ----- And here´s a spooky quote on fear I came across recently: "Our greatest fear should not be of failure… but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter." (Francis Chan) ----- Have fun and share your favourite activities or some cool pumpkin faces

🎃👻🧟♀️🧟♂️ Halloween is coming! 🦇🧛🏻♀️🧛♂️🕷 I’m sure it’s been on our minds the last few days… “How am I going to be able to survive the temptations of Halloween?” 😱 You’ve worked so hard to lose weight and have stuck to plan for so long... so it might seem a little daunting to be on a diet and continue losing weight when you have ghosts and goblins knocking at your door screaming, “Trick or Treat!”... 👻 Especially if you’re a foodie and usually celebrate the holidays with yummy treats that are not going to be 1:1 Diet friendly! 🍬🍭 For those who don’t have a sweet tooth, congratulations! You’re one of the lucky few! For the rest of us, here are a few tips to help you survive the spooky Halloween holiday so you can still stay on track and lose weight! 1. Buy your sweets at the last minute. If you eliminate bags of sweets “just hanging around” your house for days prior to Halloween, you won’t have the urge to eat “a piece here or a piece there”. The great thing about buying your Halloween treats at the last minute, especially on the day of Halloween, is you’re not only saving yourself from being tempted weeks prior, but you may also saving money as they are often reduced to clear the shelves! This could be a win-win strategy for you! 2. Keep sweet treats hidden. If you must buy sweets prior to Halloween, keep them hidden in a drawer until Halloween night. If it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind. 3. Don’t be the one at home giving out sweets. Instead, be the parent who takes your children out in the neighbourhood trick-or-treating. By leaving the house where the sweets would otherwise be tempting you, you’ll be out walking, having fun and keeping yourself preoccupied. You won’t think twice about the sweets! 🎃👻🧟♀️🧟♂️🦇🧛🏻♀️🧛♂️🕷 #ThisIsTheOne
