"If we were focused on trying to do one thing, build one product or one feature we could nail that. There's no problem. The challenge for Verizon comes because we're trying to do 500 things at once." Scaling is hard. Scaling to Verizon's level is exponentially harder. I sat down with Richard Dalton, Head of Design at Verizon, to understand the challenges that he is facing coordinating the work of over 300 Agile Collaborative Teams (ACT's). We talked about 1. structuring teams (balancing team autonomy with duplication across teams), 2. handling multiple channels that need to stay aligned (online, in-store and more) 3. the constant change in modern business and the cascading impacts of changes on teams 4. how Verizon are planning to improve the efficiency of planning and let teams focus on delivery I really enjoyed our conversation. It is great to get an insight into one of the worlds largest corporations and how they and dealing with the challenges of scaling teams. Rory Madden and Richard Dalton's discussion on scaling is worth a listen if you're interested in design in the enterprise. My thoughts: Large enterprise teams face coordination and priority planning challenges that software and UX-based information architecture help resolve. Modeling IA structure and maintaining coherent IA analytics should be integrated into any large-scale effort to conceptually align product teams and improve experience quality and efficiency. #IAstructure #IAStructuralAnalytics #informationArchitecture

Your product should serve you too. In this episode of Unlearn, host Barry O'Reilly interviews Richard Lennox, former COO at Current Health and Senior Director at Skyscanner, and explores the crucial role that clear, actionable metrics play in guiding teams towards success. Drawing on his experiences at Skyscanner, Richard shares how having a metrics-driven culture can empower teams to make better decisions, understand their impact, and course-correct in real-time. The deep connection with the customer journey allowed them to create a product that wasn’t just functional, it was essential. When you align your goals with actual customer behavior, you move from just hitting targets to genuinely enhancing the customer experience. Deep connection allowed for constant refinement and improvement, ensuring that the product wasn’t just meeting customer needs but exceeding them. It was about creating a culture where teams could constantly refine their approach, making decisions that truly mattered. The team used their own product daily, immersing themselves in the customer experience. This hands-on approach gave them firsthand insights into what worked and what didn’t. Too much information or too many options can overwhelm customers, leading to a negative experience. Focus on simplicity and clarity in your product offerings. 🎧 Tune in to the full episode: https://lnkd.in/gTiMCKBc _________________________________ Download my free innovation map I use to help companies like Google and Nike figure out the gap between their current state and desired state.
