We BCAST - Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology are super proud to announce that we are part of 3 successful projects (£24 million) funded by the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK for #UK #green #vehicle #production. These are all centred around the use of #post-consumer #aluminium for vehicles; reducing material #CO2e by up to 95% and weight by 40%. This will support growth of a #sustainable UK aluminium industry, where we must move away from importing 1.2 million-tonnes pa, and exporting a staggering >800 thousand-tonnes pa that are #downcycled; losing £3.7 billion to the UK economy each year!

evoZero in sight – we‘re taking the next big step towards the launch of Brevik CCS! It’s been almost exactly a year since we introduced evoZero, the world’s first carbon captured net-zero cement, to the market. And a lot has happened since: As we discuss serious interest with many innovative customers and projects across Europe, including the new Nobel Center in Stockholm, our colleagues in Brevik have been working tirelessly on the technical side of our first-of-its-kind carbon capture project. With the mechanical completion of Brevik CCS, we are now one step closer to the start of carbon capture in Norway, and the launch of production of evoZero. This milestone is not just a huge accomplishment for Heidelberg Materials, but also a significant win for sustainable construction across Europe. With evoZero, we can meet the growing demand for sustainable solutions, and we are enabling our customers to embark on innovative projects that actively shape the Green Transformation.

Sustainability news 🧡 Komatsu Construction has unveiled a concept machine equipped with sodium-ion batteries, marking a significant step forward in the electrification of worksites. With a focus on sustainability and customer needs, Komatsu has been advancing product electrification for years, offering a range of electric forklifts tailored to various worksite requirements. However, challenges persist, especially in worksites with shortened, light-load operations, where the high initial costs of electric models have been a barrier to adoption. The newly equipped sodium-ion batteries address these challenges by supporting rapid charging and offering a long cycle life, resulting in reduced running costs and stable supply. Leveraging the abundance of sodium on earth, these batteries present significant advantages for the future of electrification. Komatsu's concept machine, developed in collaboration with Hirano Enviromental Technology and Jiangsu Highstar Battery Manufacturing Co.,Ltd, is designed to meet the needs of worksites with light-load operations. By expanding the range of electric forklifts, Komatsu is accelerating the electrification of worksites, contributing to the reduction of environmental impacts and the journey towards carbon neutrality. #elkonisearch #sustainabilitynews #komatsu #sodiumionbatteries #batterytechnology #sodiumion #electrification

Gallant Outlines Volvo’s Journey Toward Sustainable Construction The term “sustainability” is associated with higher initial cost and as a buzzword to appease investors. As it applies to reducing carbon footprint while maintaining productivity, however, it is a top consideration for OEMs, fleets, and rental equipment providers. Volvo Construction Equipment is one manufacturer taking concrete steps toward finding efficient and green alternative power solutions for heavy equipment. Volvo CE’s parent, Volvo Group, also manufactures buses and trucks, which have been using electric solutions for years. This has positioned the company to address the heavy equipment side, leading to an aggressive set of targets for the development of electric and hybrid machinery. In 2019, the company launched its first six battery-electric machines, utilizing 48-volt batteries adapted from the forklift industry.
