This is something too many people wrong believe… Being exposed to infectious microbes isn’t a way to build your immune system. Being exposed to harmless commensals *is* fine and in early development can help train your immune system and microbiome. How to help your immune system: 1. Wash your hands 2. Get childhood vaccinations 3. Minimise antibiotic overuse P.S If you want to learn more interesting things about your health, order my best-selling book “This Book May Save Your Life”: https://lnkd.in/eHshqQdk #hygiene #publichealth #epidemiology #health

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently reported a significant surge in mpox cases worldwide, with 99,176 laboratory-confirmed cases and 208 deaths documented across 116 countries and territories from January 2022 to June 2024. The virus predominantly affects adults and spreads mainly through sexual contact, with different variants classified into clades. High risk areas include the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and neighbouring regions, as well as other parts of West, Central, and East Africa. Four European countries rank among the top ten nations with the highest cumulative case numbers, and the WHO has urged all countries to classify mpox as a notifiable disease and report cases, including instances of zero cases. Symptoms include fever, headaches, muscle pain, and back pain, typically appearing within the first five days of infection. How public health policies inform policy makers about health outcomes: Public health policies are essential in shaping health outcomes. Policymakers rely on scientific research and evidence-based practices to make informed decisions that prioritize public health. Health impact assessments and epidemiological studies help policymakers identify priority areas and patterns of diseases. By allocating resources effectively and emphasizing preventive measures, such as vaccinations and screening programs, policymakers can address current health challenges and enhance overall health outcomes. Public engagement strategies ensure that policymakers consider the community's health needs and concerns, making decisions that align with the diverse health perspectives of the population. #publichealth #healthoutcomes #policy #healthcare #dataanalysis #research #evidencebased #healthimpact #epidemiology #prevention #communityhealth
