Don't sacrifice your mental well-being for public approval. I learned this valuable lesson years ago. The pressure to conform can lead to depression, self-harm, and long-lasting pain. The hurts will always be waiting for you in your closet. Remember, those you try to impress will be the first to criticize you if and when given the chance. Embrace your true self and let others accept or walk away. Stand firm in your beliefs and values; compromising your authenticity is not worth the risk. You see that statement "what will people say?" Or "how will they perceive me?" Forget it! Whether you do it rightly or wrongly, there are still people who'll rubbish you, regardless. The more successful the person becomes, the more difficult and vulnerable his mental state. What we call the psyche is a projection of the result of your Spirit and Mind’s interaction. The latter is your personal master, as long as you obey his management. Tools of control are known to all. It is fear, desire to possess and personal status. However, knowing and managing are different things. You can’t stop your mind from scaring you because it’s out of your power. In Buddhism there is an understanding that we are governed by the Mind until the Spirit is manifested. How can we achieve this? And here, simple «life hack» with a gray Buddhist beard. Stop judging yourself for your thoughts and fears, just start watching them. To understand the nature of fear is to take control of the mind. And nothing more is required from you. Fear will lose its grip and you will become indifferent at this moment. The psyche will immediately reflect your state. Calm will come. What does emotional regulation look like? We only have problems, tensions, or challenges in life when we feel like we do, because nobody ever complains about life when everything is perfect. So when your facing fear, anxiety, sadness, anger, depression, grief, shame, etc.. those emotional problems will cloud your decisions and actions you take. The directly correlate with your actions and therefore your results. Tuesday's tip for #mentalhealth and #sustainablewellbeing: Recognise the difference between afflictive and non-afflictive mental states. I can't think of anything more important for our metal health than recognising this difference. This is not about which mental states are considered positive or negative, nor is it about whether they feel good or not (e.g. greed and obsessions can feel good, particularly when they're satisfied) A mental state can be afflictive even though it feels good and it can be non-afflictive even if it doesn't. (e.g. sadness or grief about the state of the world or the loss of a loved one is not afflictive) To help you recognise an afflictive mental state identify its two characteristics: 1. It disturbs the equilibrium of the mind. 2. It is based on a misapprehension of reality. If we wish for good mental health and balance, If we wish for healthy relationships, If we wish for world peace, Let's not settle for making peace with afflictive mental states, no matter how human and "normal' they are - let's focus on cultivating our mind to foster wholesome, non-afflictive mental states and disempower unwholesome, afflictive ones.
