One week of November to get through. It always ranks twelfth in my ‘Best Months for Teachers’ league table, updated yearly based on latest experience. 1) July. A bit of work but quite fun work, and you’re about to have several weeks off. The first day of the holiday brings euphoria. 2) August. Get paid for doing nothing. In the sun. Try not to think about September. 3) June. Looking forward to July and August. Sunny. Cricket. 4) December. Festive jollity. Presents from parents. More free money. 5) April. Full of promise. More time off. Salary still pops in nicely on 30th despite reduced workload. 6) May. Busy, but you can see what’s coming. 7) March. End of term brings respite. End of hockey season (frozen hands and painful injuries). 8) February. Its brevity is its best feature. 9) September. A hulking mass of work looms, but the weather is still nice. You can show off your suntan and boast to your colleagues about your exotic holidays which were much better than their holidays. Pay rise. 10) October. Fatigue. Getting dark. 11) January. Big working month. Cold and dark, but at least the sun is making more of an effort in the evenings. 12) Here we are.
