Creating engaging, adaptive and resilient places beautiful for people and a haven for biodiversity

Urban nature, creating places for people. This is a great example of prioritising nature and beauty in an urban environment making it appealing for people also and encouraging biodiversity in an otherwise bland concrete jungle. #plantsforpeople #urbangreening #ecologicaldesign #urbannature #greytogreen #sustainablelandscapes #resilience #climatechangemitigation #landscapearchitecture

📣 "If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan for people and places, you get people and places." - Fred Kent Join us at the World Urban Forum 12 Egypt to discuss and develop new solutions to create sustainable, inclusive cities: https://lnkd.in/dE-RsKHZ 👇 Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon Stream is a powerful example of urban transformation, echoing Fred Kent’s wisdom. For over 20 years, the river has previously been covered up with concrete with an elevated freeway built on top of it. But in 2003, the then Mayor of Seoul chose to prioritize people and public spaces and initiated a project to restore the natural river. In 2005, the restoration was finished, and included the construction of pedestrian walkways, bike paths, and green spaces, which have become popular recreational areas for local residents and tourists. The transformation is a perfect example of creating a thriving urban environment that embraces nature, connects communities and improves quality of life for all.
