⚖️ CSOs Call on Mombasa County Assembly to Ensure Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities ⚖️ Despite ongoing efforts by Coast CSOs Network for Human Rights, the Mombasa County Assembly remains inaccessible to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) ♿. This lack of accessibility goes against the principles of equality and inclusivity enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya, which guarantees every citizen’s right to access public services without discrimination. 📜 We urge the Mombasa County Assembly to honor this constitutional obligation and make its offices accessible to all. 📜 Equal access is a right, not a privilege. #AccessibilityForAll #DisabilityRights #EqualAccess #MombasaCountyAssembly #InclusiveGovernance #RightsForPWDs #ConstitutionOfKenya #CSOCallToAction Grace Kathau Sylvester Saiti Zipporah Njoki Charles Njenga People with Disability Australia (PWDA)

Interesting article showing how disabilities are reflected in cultural, genetic and environmental differences. We could learn a lot from the ADP (African Disability Protocol). #DisabilityAwareness #CulturalDiversity #LevelThePlayingField #ADA
Forbes shares Africa is about to have its ADA moment. The new legislation will assist in creating greater equity for the 80 million people living in Africa who have a disability. This will also help eliminate long held cultural beliefs about people with disabilities. Gus Alexiou | #DisabilityRights #DisabilityInclusion #DisabledAndCapable https://lnkd.in/eYK-MJ_F

Disability inclusion is a conversation that deserves our attention every day. The Daily Monitor Newspaper unveiled a compelling report on the Deaf community in Uganda yesterday [Page 18 and 19], shedding light on the challenges they face, particularly regarding societal attitudes. It’s essential to shift our perspectives towards persons with disabilities, recognizing their abilities and creating more opportunities for them. This coverage serves as a vital reminder that the conversation about disability inclusion must persist. We encourage all stakeholders to engage in advocacy efforts, ensuring that every voice is heard every day not just on designated awareness days. ``` **A Step Towards a More Inclusive Kenya** The Council, in partnership with the Council of Governors (COG) and UNICEF, recently concluded a series of engagements with county directors of social services and CECMs. The goal was to strengthen collaboration and develop a framework for disability mainstreaming at the county level. Executive Director Harun Hassan EBS emphasized the importance of county governments taking the lead in addressing disability issues, urging them to debunk the misconception that this is solely a national government responsibility. We are optimistic that this collaborative effort will lead to a more inclusive Kenya for persons with disabilities. #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #Kenya ```

Urgent International Attention Required: Discrimination and Marginalization in Kebbi State Disability Commission Appointments The appointment processes within the Kebbi State Disability Commission are under scrutiny for ongoing discrimination and marginalization against Person with disabilities. Despite numerous calls for inclusion, the voices of disabled individuals remain sidelined in critical decision-making roles, undermining their right to fair representation. We call on both national and international authorities to intervene and address this glaring injustice. Ensuring equitable appointments in the Commission is essential for fostering true inclusivity, upholding human rights, and aligning with global standards on disability rights. This issue demands immediate government action and global advocacy to promote fairness and transparency in governance. We urge leaders to act swiftly, ensuring that marginalized groups are not excluded from shaping policies that directly impact their lives. #SDG #unitednation #humanright #disabilityrightcommission #disabilityiclusion #nationaljonapwd Signed AMB LAIATU AUGUSTINE BAMAIYI.

From Kenya to Berlin: This week, our partners are taking part in the African Disability Forum Conference and the African Regional Pre-Summit of the Global Disability Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. The first regional events on the road to the Global Disability Summit in April 2025 –these conferences are critical for reflecting on progress, advocating for change and encouraging greater investment in disability inclusion. Under the #InclusiveFutures initiative – with the support of funders #FCDO and #USAID, and the work of NGOs, research partners, organisations of people with disabilities (OPDs) and country governments, we’ve helped transform the lives of more than 3 million people with disabilities. Yet, our work is far from done. This is what inclusion looks like – progress made, but much more to achieve. #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveFutures https://bit.ly/3Tfd3z

Accessibility shouldn’t be a privilege—it’s a right. Yet, people with disabilities in Uganda face immense barriers due to public spaces not being designed with them in mind. It’s time we push for more inclusive infrastructure, ensuring everyone can access schools, workplaces, and essential services. Together, we can create an environment where mobility is not a limitation. Let’s advocate for change! #InclusionMatters #DisabilityRights #EqualAccess #AccessibilityForAll Disability Belongs Disability Confident Disability Rights Disability Rights Fund ILO Global Business and Disability Network

The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) is elated to be in partnership with Light for the World (LFTW) to implement a signature disability inclusion program known as #WeCanWork in collaboration with Mastercard Foundation and Africa Disability Forum. This program uses a systems and mindset change approach to impact the lives of young African women and men with disabilities enabling them to access dignified and fulfilling work in #Nigeria #Ghana #Senegal #Uganda #Kenya #Ethiopia #Rwanda The program employs a Disability Inclusion Facilitator (DIF) model which involves youth with disabilities aged 18-35 years, leading change through disability awareness training and demonstrating ability in action. JONAPWD has piloted the project with six (6) Disability Inclusion Facilitators (DIFs) and is working towards up-skilling more. Furthermore, youths are engaged in co-creation and their aspirations are activated through the We Can Work Academy which offers them training opportunities for waged employment, entrepreneurship and modern technical up-skilling. At JONAPWD, all hands are on deck to ensure that persons with disabilities are included in society because persons with disabilities deserve a society that is free from discrimination, where they are seen as valuable contributors rather than as burdens and where their abilities outshine their disabilities. We Can Work is instrumental towards realizing this. #WeCanWorkNG #WCW #YoungAfricaWorks #InclusiveEmployment #DignifiedWork
