This means they consider things like reducing pollution or supporting fair working conditions, but they don’t have to be entirely focused on sustainability. Article 9: Now, imagine "dark green" investments. These are much stricter. Funds under Article 9 aim to have a positive impact on the environment or society. Our Head of Global Venture, Ed Phillips was featured in ESG Investor today, discussing why sustainable investment is needed in the Ocean Economy. 🌡 We are currently facing record-breaking temperatures and wildfires due to climate change, but ocean damage remains under-recognised. #WorldOceanDay underscored the need to prioritise ocean conservation in climate finance. 🌊The ocean is vital for climate management, generating 50% of the world's oxygen, absorbing 30% of CO2 emissions, and capturing 90% of excess heat. It also offers solutions like ocean-based renewable energy that could significantly reduce emissions. 💰 Despite its importance, the ocean receives less than 1% of climate finance. Addressing this requires prioritising ocean-based solutions and investing in new technologies. Promising startups like Rovco, Captura, and REGENT are already leading the way in ocean innovation. Further investment in companies at the forefront of blue solutions has the potential to drive significant positive impact in the climate race and foster a virtuous cycle of innovation and growth in the Ocean Economy.
