This chatbot is specifically designed for urban #farmers and enthusiasts, providing essential guidance throughout the farming process. By following a few simple prompts, our chatbot can assist with relevant information on garden setup, seed selection, farm maintenance, produce storage, pest control, and connect urban farmers with service providers. This initiative is part of Solidaridad’s Acting Now programme, which aims to enhance #foodsecurity by helping producers build resilient #foodsystems. Our goal is to promote food security in urban households and improve their #nutritional needs. 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? Over 35 million goats roam Southern Africa's communal areas, making them the second most valuable livestock after cattle. Their resilience in harsh environments makes them perfect for these small-scale, traditional production systems. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: In Zambia's Pemba district in Southern province, World Vision Zambia's SLIC project, a livestock asset transfer project, which empowers households with small livestocks like goats has transformed the lives of over 3,000 households. The organisation has helped grow the goat population from 2,250 to over 26,350 from 2018 to 2022 – a remarkable 1,000% increase! 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀? As droughts grip Southern Africa due to El Niño, goats offer a viable livelihood option. Their adaptability ensures communities can weather these climatic shifts and build a brighter future. FtMA continues to make strides in our activities in Tanzania 🌍 We are currently in 6 regions, serving over 128,984 farmers through 405 FSCs. Agriculture is the basis of Tanzania's economy. Of the 2.1 million hectares that are under production, 95% are farmed by smallholder farmers using traditional methods. Informal and unstructured market constrained, including restricted access to profitable markets, traps most farmers into subsistence-level activities, where there is no critical mass for profitable agriculture business. FtMA, with the support of our Donors, Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and MFAT in Auckland are working to solve these problems through innovative approaches, supporting smallholders at the last/first mile, and by strengthening their resilience to climate shocks. At One Acre Fund, we believe that putting #FarmersFirst means overcoming even the toughest logistical challenges to ensure that essential resources reach the most remote communities—like Nkombo Island in Rwanda. 🇷🇼 This island community depends on farming, but years of soil erosion have led to increasingly acidic and less fertile land, drastically reducing crop yields. To address this, we provide farmers with high-quality fertilizers, seeds, lime, and expert training, working alongside the government’s efforts to restore the land through terracing and reforestation. After travelling more than 50 km by truck, crossing 1 km by boat, and being hand-delivered by local farmers, these vital inputs reached over 900 households—enabling farmers to plant on time, improve their yields, and strengthen their livelihoods. By overcoming these logistical barriers, we’re demonstrating what’s possible in agriculture, creating a sustainable impact one farmer and one community at a time. 🌱

Helen Chabunya, a commercial farmer from Malawi, emphasizes that collaboration and not competition between commercial and smallholder farmers is vital for the growth of the agriculture sector. Large-scale farmers, like herself, play a key role in the ecosystem, and working together with smallholder farmers will strengthen the sector. By joining forces with neighboring countries like Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya, they can meet food demand across the region. It's not easy, it's not convenient, but it's possible and worth it. Last week, we were thrilled to welcome Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) (HingaWunguke's Team) to our farm in Kayonza, Rwanda! 🌱 Happy to participate in Hinga Wunguke's assessment of potential partners to increase incomes and improve nutrition by enhancing agricultural productivity and strengthening markets for high-value and nutritious products in Rwanda. Our field team guided the visitors on a facility tour, explained our MVP, and demonstrated our aquaponics system that operates with cutting-edge monitoring technology. We showcased these transformative farming solutions impacting agriculture in Rwanda. We continue to work towards sustainable growth, increased resilience to climate change, and enhanced food security and nutrition outcomes for Rwandans.
