Sex and intimacy in aged care are arguably very complex. What’s okay, what’s not, when is it crossing the line? Older Persons Advocacy Network is set to explore all this, and more, in an upcoming webinar, and panellist Catherine Barrett (Celebrate Ageing) shared some early insights with hello leaders. The world of female+ body and sexual wellness has long perpetuated the idea of a socially-constructed "ideal" body - one that is thin, white, and heterosexual. But guess what? This "ideal" body doesn't actually exist. It's a myth designed to keep women+ and non-binary folks feeling insecure and unworthy, while lining the pockets of corporations selling us products to "fix" ourselves. It's time to do better. We need to embrace inclusivity and diversity in the world of body and sexual wellness. Let's celebrate all body types, sizes, colors, and sexual orientations. Let's have open and honest conversations about pleasure, desire, and consent. Let's amplify the voices of marginalized communities in this space and uplift their experiences. Because everyone deserves access to quality sexual and reproductive healthcare, education, and products that work for their unique needs. At Umaversity we're creating a world where everyone feels empowered and supported to explore their sexuality and take care of their bodies in a way that feels good for them. Engage, Exchange & Expand with Umaversity. Become part of our thriving community and bring Umaversity to your organization or event. What happens when psychologists succumb to group-think? How did so many psychologists find themselves abandoning their professions tool of formulation? What was it like to work as a clinical psychologist in the former Gender Identity Development Service at the Tavistock? This week, David Jones and Dr Naomi Murphy published a conversation with Dr Anna Hutchinson who, along with others, increasingly found herself professionally compromised by the work she was expected to do. Links in comments. And if you enjoyed this conversation, check out the book by Hannah Barnes, "Time to Think" an exploration of what happened at the GIDS, Tavistock. 📅 New Episodes Every Wednesday at 6:00 PM UK Time Don't forget to check out the show notes for links to Anna Hutchinson's practice and more! #Podcast #ClinicalPsychology #GIDS #HolisticCare #GenderServices #MindBodyConnection #HealthCare #Medicallyunexplained #AnnaHutchinson #LockedUpLiving #Timetothink

#WorldContraceptionDay | #ContraceptionForAll Many of us grew up in silence when it came to discussions about safer sex options, leaving us without the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about our bodies and sexual health. In India, cultural and patriarchal norms still dictate these conversations, often excluding women, queer, trans folks, and persons with disabilities from making decisions about reproductive health. Access to safer sex methods like contraception isn’t just about preventing pregnancy—it’s about protecting ourselves from violence and bodily autonomy, preventing STIs, and supporting one’s right to sexual and reproductive health. From regulating menstruation for trans folks to enabling everyone to make informed decisions, safer sex methods are a right for all. Learn more about the range of safer sex methods like contraception and get answers to your questions in our FAQs here- https://lnkd.in/gPx8chPa At TARSHI, we’re committed to creating Safe, Inclusive, and Self-Affirming (SISA) spaces where everyone has access to non-judgmental, rights-based information on sexual and reproductive health and rights. #ContraceptionForAll #SRHR #GenderEquality #QueerRights #ReproductiveRights #DisabilityRights #InformedDecisions #SafeSpaces #CSE #ContraceptionOptions #BodyAutonomy #STIPrevention #RightToChoose #STI #TransRights #WomensRights #WorldContraceptionDay #Solidarity #DisabilityInclusion #SexEdForAll #FeministHealthcare #HealthcareRights #ReproductiveJustice #ContraceptiveAwareness #LGBTQHealth #IntersectionalFeminism #TransInclusiveHealthcare #SRHRForEveryone #DisabilityInHealth #LGBTQ #LGBTQIA+

Our latest @Bevan Brittan LLP Health & Care Regulatory team’s Lunchtime Education Webinar was presented by Ulele Burnham of Doughty Street Chambers. The presentation on Sexual Relations, Equality and the Court of Protection considered challenges involved in balancing the competing priorities of maximising autonomy whilst protecting vulnerable individuals in the context of sexual relations and through the prism of equality. We learned: · Capacity is now assessed in the context of whether a person has capacity to engage in sexual relations; · The “relevant information” for that capacity assessment is no longer limited to the mechanics of the act and the risks posed (such as disease and pregnancy) but also the requirement of consent from the other person, before and throughout their sexual engagement; · Such capacity assessments also need to consider P’s capacity “in the moment”; · The threshold for capacity to engage in sexual relations is low; · It’s not uncommon for a P to have capacity to engage in sexual relations but lack capacity to make decisions about who to have contact with and how that contact should take place; · Care Plans which seek to balance determining who and how P has contact with others in their best interests with supporting P’s ability to engage in sexual relations need careful thought and planning – and approval from sufficiently senior judges; · Practically, there can be challenges for care providers with: · supporting P who has capacity to engage in sexual relations to engage in such sexual relations; and · supporting P who lacks capacity to engage in sexual relations to prevent them from such engagement; If you missed it, you can watch the webinar here and you can subscribe for future Health & Care Regulatory Education Lunchtime Webinars here. Our next webinar is on 5th September where Katie Phillips and Dr Sheila Fish will consider “Perplexing Presentations and Fabricated and Induced Illness in children and adults.” You can register here. #CourtofProtection #capacity #equality #sexualrelations

Sexual health doesn’t retire, and neither do the risks. ‼️ As we age, it’s crucial to stay informed and proactive in protecting ourselves and our partners. STIs are on the rise and age is no barrier to these infections. But there are ways to protect yourself! 💬 Communicate Openly: Don’t shy away from discussing safe sex practices with your partner(s). Proof of negative STI tests before becoming intimate and consistently using condoms are key to safeguarding your health. 🎁 Use Condoms: Condoms are still essential for STI prevention, even when pregnancy isn’t a concern. Make it a part of your routine with new partners. 🧠 Stay Informed: The belief that age reduces STI risk is a myth. Protect yourself by staying aware and making safe sex a priority at any age. Let’s celebrate #SexualHealthAwarenessMonth by spreading the word - because a healthy, fulfilling sex life is for everyone! #ManhattanMindful #Manhattan #NYC #LGBTQ #Therapy #GenderExpansive #AffirmingCare #Queer #MentalHealth

In 2010, the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS) set September 4th as “World Sexual Health Day” (WSHD) to promote social awareness of sexual health worldwide. However, what do we truly mean by Sexual well-being? And how is this concept still influenced by shame? #tijdschriftlover #sexualhealth #worldsexualhealthday #intersectionalfeminism #bodypositivity #consent #linkinbio
