Wow a fantastic series about the realities facing fashion design entrepreneurs now with so much great insight and advice. *Two-thirds of brands that use the wholesale channel say they have experienced late or missed payments. (Sad but not surprising) * The gold standard for a great wholesaler is a partner who offers emerging designers at least 30 per cent payment upfront to fund production costs, commits to more than one season of orders (even if they aren’t an immediate success), and strives to avoid seller returns, which put undue risk on independent labels.  (100%!) * There is an oversupply of designers and a dearth of technicians. (This is so important and several designers I know actually fund their own brands with their patternmaking skills) * Although 51 per cent of survey respondents express an interest in starting their own brand, many say they felt underprepared after graduating from fashion school. (You NEED industry experience) * The obsession with the idea of the "star designer" is doing a great disservice not just to the many graduates of design programs each year but to the industry at large. Bravo to authors Bella Webb and Maliha Shoaib - every aspiring and independent designer should read this so BIG thanks to @voguebusiness for making it available to everyone.
