The diversity of the #microbiome is crucial for our #health. However, reckless use of #antibiotics can disrupt the balance and even promote the spread of resistant germs, as HZI researchers Till Strowig and Dr. Lisa Osbelt-Block explain in the current issue of the HZI magazine ‘InFact’. #WAAW24

Collectively, these communities of microbes and the genes they encode are known as the human microbiome. WATER RESTRICTION INDUCES CONSTIPATION WITHOUT DEHYDRATATION Water is the largest component of the human body, comprising more than 50% of body mass in a healthy adult and serving various functions in digestion, including absorption, transport of nutrients or waste, and thermoregulation. The three major sources for water acquisition include drinking, eating, and metabolism, with 70–80% water provided via beverages. Chronic underhydration affects human health and is associated with diseases, particularly metabolic disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes in adults. Water intake is also associated with gastrointestinal function. However, its specific role of water in gut function remains largely unexplored. In this study on an animal model (mice), published open access in iScience, the effects of a hydration restriction on the intestinal microbiota are monitored. https://lnkd.in/dY2kwcnC #water #underhydration #microbiota
Water Intake's Impact on Gut Microbiota and Immune Function A recent study published in iScience (https://lnkd.in/efXvwNEb ) reveals the crucial role of adequate water intake in maintaining gut health and immune function. Researchers investigated how water restriction affects gut microbiota, immune homeostasis, and pathogen elimination: 1. Water restriction suppressed body weight gain and induced constipation without dehydration. 2. Reduced water intake altered gut microbiota composition and decreased immune cell abundance in the gut. 3. Water-restricted subjects showed diminished ability to eliminate pathogens like Citrobacter rodentium. This study highlights once more the often-overlooked importance of proper hydration for overall health. The findings suggest that maintaining adequate water intake could be a simple yet effective strategy for supporting gut health and immune function. How do you ensure proper hydration in your daily routine? Be safe. #GutHealth #Hydration #ImmuneFunction #Microbiome #PesonalizedMedicine

I sometimes reflect on how everything began in my life with regards to Personalized Medicine and Nutrition. The process began a long time ago, before PN was even recognized as a concept and probiotics were considered snake oil by conventional doctors! Take a look at what I discussed in my Naturopathic Thesis in 2005. https://lnkd.in/e38tRAAD In the context of health and diseases, I was discussing information, biophotons, and systemic communication systems. It was my wish that medicine would have included all of these elements one day. The time may have come when AI is applied to PN and PM! #personalizedmedicine #personalizednutrition #naturopathy #biophotons #information
