Came across an interesting thought in Software Localization. While you're sending out the source files for translation, you'd perhaps want to tag part of your file(s) targeted for translation only, to minimize translating incorrect strings in the file(s) (e.g., metadata, urls, etc.). Would you tag the translatable strings or the ones that's not translatable? In my opinion - calculate based on the volume of strings and tag the ones that has less in volume. Generally speaking we only need to translate the strings that are visible to the user on the UI - and they are the ones that are normally lower in volume. What do you think? #softwarelocalization

🌟 Updates in MedDRA Version 27.1! 🌟 MedDRA Version 27.1, this is a simple change version, focusing on changes at the PT and LLT levels., reflecting MSSO commitment to continuous improvement and user feedback. 🔍 Change Requests Overview: This version saw a total of 1,295 change requests processed, with 968 approved and implemented. These updates enhance both MedDRA and Standardised MedDRA Queries (SMQs). 📊 Standardised MedDRA Queries (SMQs): While no new SMQs were introduced, there were 222 approved PT changes to existing SMQs, bringing the total to 110 Level 1 SMQ topics and 230 SMQs overall. For a detailed view, check the MedDRA 27.1 Version Report! 💡 Proactivity in Change Requests: MSSO continue to embrace user-driven improvements. In this release, one proactive maintenance proposal was implemented, addressing various inconsistencies and enhancements. 🌍 New Languages for Global Reach: The MSSO continues to work on new languages to enable more users to apply MedDRA in their native language and facilitate global communication of MedDRA coded data. MSSO announced the release of Croatian and Lithuanian translations, with Icelandic translations nearing completion! This brings the total to 24 languages, facilitating broader global communication. Additional EEA languages (Bulgarian, Maltese, Norwegian, Romanian, Slovak, and Slovenian) are also in development for release in 2024/2025. So you think Microsoft is the best when it comes to localization, especially with their terminology website? This is the state of Turkish translation on Windows. The screen of my friend’s laptop is showing the exchange rates. In the first instance, “markets” is translated as “pazarlar”. The word could be used in another context but not here. In the second instance, “markets” are left as “market”. A market in Turkish is a grocery store, and I can’t even start with the simple inconsistency here. Don’t you or your agency have QA procedures in place, Microsoft?! In addition, “marketler” probably refers to a website of theirs, so the lack of an apostrophe here makes it sound like “you can go to a supermarket, and you can see more there”. The correct Turkish word is surely “piyasa”, and I am not even a financial translator. A termbase won’t help if you aren’t working with professionals and don’t have proper controls in place. A few years ago, they were working with RWS Moravia but I don’t know the current situation. However, I wouldn’t be surprised. Even then, I had to stop after a few small projects because the whole process sucked. Also, “lightning nearby” on a Turkish screen?! I stopped using any software in English years ago, but I remember a time when I admired the quality of localization on Microsoft products.
