Nearly 10,000 stakeholders from various sectors convened at London Olympia for Innovation Zero 2024, the UK’s largest net zero industry event. This assembly included experts, professionals, politicians, and innovators united in addressing climate change through discussions on policy, investment, clean technology, and low carbon solutions. We need to speed up the green transition. The fact is that (almost) none of us are moving ahead at a rapid enough speed. But what to do about it? At least we need more cooperation throughuot value chains and we really could use policy measures to back us up.

Clean transition creates growth for Europe 🌳 The Climate Leadership Coalition Network (CLC) has published its policy recommendations, which are intended to serve as a guide for the European Commission to advance climate actions and green transition. We at YIT want to be part of the solution to combat climate change and we support CLC’s ambitious climate targets. Accelerating Carbon Removal: The Road to Meeting Paris Targets 🔍 Key Findings of the latest edition of 'The State of Carbon Removal' (Report): 🔸 Current Status: In 2023, about 2.2 billion tons of CO2 were removed from the atmosphere. Remarkably, over 99.9% of this was achieved through nature-based methods like forest restoration, wetland conservation, and soil sequestration. Novel methods like BECCS, biochar, and enhanced rock weathering contributed a small fraction but are crucial for future growth. 🔸 Future Needs: To meet Paris Agreement goals, we need to scale up carbon removal to over 4 billion tons annually by 2030. This requires a nearly doubling of nature-based removals and a staggering 1,500x increase in technology-enabled removal. 🔸 Pledges vs. Reality: Current national pledges only account for a fraction of the required growth. Countries are on track to increase carbon removal by 500 million tons annually by 2030, but we need to double this commitment to stay on course. 🔸 Investment Imperative: The report highlights the inverse relationship between emission reductions and reliance on carbon removal. The faster we cut emissions, the less we depend on carbon removal. However, even in optimistic scenarios, we must triple our capacity for carbon capture and sequestration in the next 30 years. 🚀 Action Required: Aggressive investment in nature restoration and novel carbon removal technologies is critical. This dual approach is a game-changer in our fight against climate change. Planetary claimns their technology would be able to store the captured CO2 at the bottom of Ocean for over 100,000 years!! We urge policymakers, including the CFR, to recognize the importance of these projects and provide more incentives to support and scale these critical carbon removal technologies. The EU Green Deal continues to fight against climate change with one goal: Becoming the first-climate neutral continent. Concrete policies are already underway to: - reduce at least 55% of net greenhouse gas emissions. - plant an additional 3 billion trees. These initiatives are set to be achieved by 2030, ensuring a sustainable future for the next generation. At Amsterdam Standard we refuse to delay action. While 95% of companies consider sustainability a top priority, 84% admit it takes a back seat. We are committed to being part of the solution rather than contributing to the problem. By 2026, we only plan to onboard sustainable clients: - Climate tech - Clean tech - Renewable energy We not only get to inspire our existing clients, but we also get to help them optimize their operations and increase efficiency. This is a reminder: Sustainability in your company is no longer a nice thing to have, but a necessity. Stakeholders are expecting a reduction in environmental footprint and greater social impact. For EU tech companies, a wait-and-see approach is the wrong way to go. Those who fail to prioritize sustainability risk losing their competitive edge. You alienate customers, investors, and top talent who demand responsible business practices. It's simple: You adapt, or you are left behind.
