“Memunat, you seem to be everywhere…”
Yesterday, I attended the Nigeria Poultry & Livestock Expo’24 in Ibadan and coincidentally I met Ms. Ayomikun, whom I had previously met at the Nigeria Society for Animal Production Conference in March 2024.
She was quite amused to see me and asked, “This woman, is there a place you don’t go?”
This reminded me of a remark made by one of my amiable lecturers, who also serves as the Chairman, Security Committee of Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor E.O. Akinfala at the JCIN OAU Road Sign Project. He noticed my presence and jokingly remarked, "Memunat, you are always everywhere."
The truth is, I’m never everywhere. I carefully select my engagements, events, and appearances. I have quite a limited number of commitments, however, what sets me apart is my intentionality and dedication to those few things I choose to pursue. When I show up, I strive to make a remarkable impact.
Here are a few things I’ve learnt and actively do that have been invaluable to my journey:
1. Being present in the room - I've learnt how to listen actively, ask questions (if necessary), and observe critically.
2. Being bold, audacious and confident.
3. I've come to learn how to stay calm when I speak, and how to own my voice and stage.
4. Being active in organizations, committees or teams.
5. Giving the things I do my utmost dedication.
6. Dressing the part.
7. Documenting my journey and processes both online and offline.
8. Actively seeking knowledge and staying updated.
9. Being ruthlessly INTENTIONAL.
10. Read. Read. Read.
You don't have to be everywhere before you can seem to be everywhere.
The intentionality you put into the few things you do will speak for you even long after you've left the room.
...until we can no longer try again. 🌍👑
