Organics Europe regrets that in this last plenary week, MEPs voted to secure their hasty position on NGTs. It is now up to Member States in Council to have those thorough discussions that were not had in the Parliament and stand up for organic and non-organic producers to ensure traceability and national coexistence measures. These are the only tools available to protect freedom of farmers and food producers not to use genetic engineering techniques, and of consumers not to buy produce derived from these techniques. Jennifer Lewis representing IBMA - International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association is currently speaking at the Bioagtech World Congress about the strong support for #biocontrol within EU institutions. Despite the Sustainable Use Regulation not passing, there is a lot of political momentum for biocontrol. Farmers’ protests resulted in strategic dialog for ag, and there is an opportunity for new legislative initiatives this year as new commissioners come in.
