💬 Our dialogue last week highlighted a preference for owned commentary content, with the poll indicating channels like social media and blogs as the primary tools for many of us. These platforms offer control of timing and messaging, particularly useful for early- to mid-stage companies looking to establish themselves. Yet, the role of strategic paid content, like boosted LinkedIn content or sponsored talks, shouldn't be overlooked, especially when it comes to gaining immediate broader visibility. Key takeaway: Balancing different forms of authentic commentary—owned for control, earned for credibility, and paid for visibility—is essential for a well-rounded thought leadership program. 

On February 8, 2024, I had the privilege and pleasure of facilitating a session for my #Bayercropscience colleague, Tracy Best, with Mathias Labs, a colleague who is also a member of the #Bayer Mindful Matters Facilitators Network (MMFN). At Tracy's request, we facilitated a session on Team Mission and Vision with her team: Alicia Braker, John Robert Chovanec, Ivana McNeal, Cristina Porciuncula Krzyzaniak, and Milica Vogt. In our session, we discussed the concept of Team Vision and Mission Statements. We also reviewed and discussed examples from some well-known entities. For those of you who are not familiar with the concept of a team #visionstatement, it is a short sentence that defines where you want to go and is designed to be an idea that inspires and connects the people in the team. For me, an example from my beloved Canadiens de Montréal readily comes to mind. "To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high." To create a team vision statement, it is necessary to consider what you want your future to look like? What do you want to be recognized for some day? A crystal-clear vision will help you as you make difficult strategic and operational decisions. As for #team #mission, to create one, it is necessary to describe what your team does, who you are doing it for, and why you do what you do. A good team mission will facilitate action by clarifying decision-making, roles, and goals and enhancing partnership and trust. I would say one of the biggest challenges many of us have in our organizations is we've got too much to do and not enough time and not enough people. Can you relate?   We just wrapped up our Melinta Therapeutics annual executive committee offsite meeting in beautiful Asbury Park. I always look forward to our in-person meetings – when you can meet in a setting where you’re not constantly on your laptop or your phone, you can accomplish so much. We took advantage of our time to discuss how we can operationalize and optimize our strategic plan for next year and beyond. And because we have so much to do, this includes having hard conversations about prioritization and getting alignment on what we will and will not do. Let’s face it, if everything is important, nothing is important, so what is ESSENTIAL?   Even more importantly, we discussed our talent – the people at the heart of our success. As a leadership team, one of the most important things we do is make sure we invest in our people and support a culture that values continuous learning and growth. One of the highlights of this offsite was the integration of fun team-building activities, including my second competitive bowling competition this year. Let's just say, I think I missed my calling. But all jokes aside, these moments of fun and connection outside of the office are just as important as the work we do day-to-day. What was the most amazing part in the talent accelerator meeting in Paris?   As promised, I wanted to share my reflections on the #Sanofi Global Talent Accelerator – an immersive experience designed to foster personal and professional growth.  Knowing almost no one going in, I was a little apprehensive, but also incredibly open to meeting and being inspired by amazing people. Those apprehensions quickly faded. The diverse group of participants, all driven by a shared passion for learning and innovation, created an electrifying atmosphere. The program itself was a fantastic blend of thought-provoking content, insightful discussions, and hands-on challenges. We explored topics like diversity of exposure, experience across the value chain, and navigating multicultural work environments (by the amazing Erin Meyer). All of this was delivered by professionals from both Sanofi and beyond. One of the program's highlights was definitely the opportunity to network with Sanofi's Ex-Com. These inspiring individuals shared their personal stories and offered invaluable advice. It was a unique glimpse into the inner workings of top leaders. As someone with a predominantly red-blue energy profile, networking doesn't always come natural to me. But the program's supportive environment and numerous networking opportunities pushed me to step outside my comfort zone and connect with others on a deeper level (Audrey Clegg- this was my the needles bad with the red pillow 😯 ). What resonated most with me, and truly reflects my personal leadership style, were the program's core take aways: Be Bold, Be Curious, Be Authentic. This mantra encouraged us to embrace challenges, celebrate our uniqueness, and strive for continuous growth. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Global Talent Accelerator. It's undoubtedly been a turning point in my professional journey.I'm excited to carry the lessons and experiences learned far into the future, and I'm super curious to see what is coming next! And to all the lovely people in the pictures- thank you for making this journey so unique! I enjoyed meeting each one of you! How do you foster that “special glue” that makes a unique culture? One where employees are engaged, and business is performing?    Three years ago, when Viatris was formed from 2 distinctly different teams and cultures , there was no “plug and play” manual to build our new, common culture in Europe. But it became clear instantly that in the diversity there was strength, there was complementarity in varying expertise and also an array of innovative ideas, ready to be implemented and shared. That’s why we launched a pan-European program incentivizing sharing those great ideas from all employees across teams and countries. And now we can see how that has helped us to bring our 9 000 employees, spread across 38 countries in Europe, closer – and build together our common culture of innovation and collaboration.   This week, I had the privilege of joining teams coming from all over the region in celebrating seventeen winning projects. Those were selected among +120 initiatives: all connected to either an initiative providing access to our customers and patients, impacting the well-being and the development of our employees, or how we contribute to society and the communities we live and work in. To me, empowering our teams to implement creative solutions and drive impactful results, then facilitating those innovative ideas to travel beyond borders, and not the least making sure to celebrate them adequately – is an key ingredient in that “special glue” which helps forming that very special culture of  Viatris Europe.   #ViatrisEurope #viaViatris #leadership #culture #StrongerTogether

What does it feel like to spot an opportunity? Following your curiosity, looking from as many different angles as possible until…..aha!! There it is. Your turn to have a go – can you see a fly in this picture? Look hard! About 10% of folks can see it right off. (Not me I have to admit! I need to work on this skill too!) If you can’t, click through until you do. Get it and you won’t be able to see anything else. Just like the best new innovations. This was just one of many exercises we shared this week during our first ever Global Talent Summit: 40 of our top Talent leaders from all over the world gathered in Budapest to take our performance to the next level. The goal: enable Sanofi to launch more cutting-edge treatments, more quickly. How do we get there? Stronger talent pipeline, stronger relationships, creative thinking, change leadership … the themes will be familiar to you all. But I was super impressed with the imagination, the ambition and the drive with which the team created a wonderful overarching story to open our hearts and minds and inspire us! Remember the Wizard of Oz? When the cyclone hits (disruption as usual!) Dorothy is trying to care for someone she loves (the heart of what Sanofi does). She finds herself in a new land where nothing is what it was. She must help her new friends develop the skills and the big hearts they need to achieve their mission… exactly what we do every day in Talent! And what we get better at with every year that passes. Do you ever find yourself in a tricky position? Like a lobster in a pot!? Water feels ok to start with but you don’t realise until too late that it’s heating up. “How did I get here… (again!)?” you ask. “How am I going to get out of it this time?” Happy Halloween!!! I love this time of year because we get to peer into the darkness and have some fun with it. It’s not always easy to get my fears out into the open, but when I do, it’s like a having a difficult conversation that’s overdue. I can see what’s going on beneath the surface. I get some perspective. Gathering with the People & Culture leadership team this week, we looked at the menu of skills Sanofi has on offer. I was struck that one of the biggest differences compared to when I was starting out is that emotional intelligence is right there, front and centre. It’s taken for granted now that it plays a fundamental role in business: in how we build relationships, how we develop trust, how we make mistakes, how we solve problems together and ultimately, how we learn. All I can say is thank goodness we no longer have to peer into the darkness to explore how we’re feeling as we work! Out in the light, we can work faster and on a much bigger scale. And as a result, we can improve the lives of many, many more patients all over the world.
