The secret to family-centered care isn't in the brochure. It's not procedures or policies, either. It's in the communication. The human factor. Imagine if the last time you visited the hospital, your doctor listened to you and then asked, "How can we help your family best?" Wouldn't that be refreshing? That's the essence of family-centered care. It's treating the WHOLE person and not just the illness. It's looking at the entire family unit and knowing that their health isn't just physical. It's asking how we can accommodate the needs of the family during the patient's stay. It's simple and yet it's revolutionary. So here's my challenge to you: Next time you think about patient care, think about family care. Because that's what matters most.
