This week is National Safeguarding Adults Week, which is a time for organisations to come together to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues. Each day this week will explore a different safeguarding theme. The themes will encourage us to consider how we can work together to establish safer cultures within our workplaces and communities. Today’s theme is professional curiosity. Showing professional curiosity goes a long way to recognising and preventing abuse. Do you know the signs of Abuse? Home-Start Worldwide puts the safety of children at the heart of our work. One of our key activities is to facilitate consistent policy across the international Home-Start network. In the kind of work we do, with vulnerable families and infants, safeguarding is of paramount importance. It protects our families - and also our treasured network of volunteers. The 5 R’s of safeguarding encompass: Recognise: Identifying indicators of abuse and neglect Respond: Reacting suitably to suspicions of abuse and neglect Report: Notifying the relevant authorities about concerns Record: Documenting information accurately and suitably Review: Regularly evaluating safeguarding protocols to uphold efficacy #Safeguarding #homestartworldwide #HomeStart #HelpingFamiliesThrive

Child-on-child abuse - are we addressing it effectively? The terminology shift from "peer-on-peer" to "child-on-child" abuse reflects a deeper understanding of the dynamics involved. It acknowledges that harmful behaviours can occur across all age groups and that these incidents demand a more nuanced response. Addressing child-on-child abuse requires clear, proactive safeguarding strategies. It’s about more than just reacting to incidents - it’s about prevention. This includes educating children about appropriate boundaries, training staff to recognise early warning signs, and cultivating environments where concerns can be raised without fear. By taking a proactive approach, organisations can not only manage incidents effectively but also create a culture of accountability and safety. Are your safeguarding practices equipped to meet the complexities of this issue?
