From article: "But even though employees are disclosing their disabilities, it doesn’t mean they’re asking for appropriate workplace accommodations; that can include anything from crafting alternative schedules, to adjusting noise and lighting levels in the office. Out of people who have disclosed their disability at work, 75% haven’t asked their employer for an accommodation. That may be due to their previous inability to get one approved. A staggering 74% of respondents say they’ve had at least one rejected, and nearly 20% say they’ve had all formal queries rejected. Of employees with disabilities who have had their requests rejected, 41% were told it was too costly, 30% that it would be too annoying to implement, and 29% that it was simply unreasonable." https://lnkd.in/gGbAdkn8 #disability #disclosure #accommodations #workplace #management #humanresources

Exciting news from the U.S. Department of Labor (yes, REALLY!! 😊) In honor of #NationalDisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth, they have announced an innovative new tool – the Situations & Solutions Finder – which offers examples of workplace accommodations shared by users of the @JobAccomodationNetwork. I personally loved looking through the case studies and examples in the database, filterable by specific #disabilities as well as other limitations. Did you know that nearly half of reported accommodations cost nothing, and the median cost for those that do require an expense is just $300?! Small adjustments can make a big difference! Let's spread the word about this valuable tool and continue to advocate for #inclusivity in the #workplace. These initiatives help employees with disabilities succeed, enabling them to contribute to your organization's success in ways you may not have considered. The statistic that 80% of disabilities are acquired emphasizes the importance of this issue in every workplace. So, during #NDEAM2024 I ask this basic question - is your organization doing enough? Read the full article to explore how you can shape a workplace where every employee, regardless of ability, can thrive. #Inclusion #Accessibility #WorkplaceCulture #Leadership #EmployeeSuccess #Disability https://lnkd.in/gfva-pXh
