🇮🇳 Over the past two years, India's space sector has seen remarkable progress, particularly in fostering a conducive environment for space startups. With updated official rules aimed at attracting global investors and companies, India has enhanced its appeal as a destination for space ventures. The revised foreign direct investment (FDI) policy, which raises limits on foreign investment, holds promise for renewed interest in the South Asian space community. 🚀 Both private and public entities in India have been actively engaged in initiatives to bolster participation in the space sector. The ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization has notably advanced its global standing, highlighted by achievements such as the successful moon landing of the 🚀 Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft and its collaboration with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration on the Artemis Accords. However, prior restrictions on foreign direct investments had impeded the country's ability to attract international investors, leading to funding delays for some of India's burgeoning space tech startups. 💸 According to an approved amendment in India's FDI norms to allow increased overseas investment in the space sector, in some cases up to 100%. 💡 The Indian government has defined three different categories under the amended policy: ✔ Up to 49% (foreign ownership) for launch vehicles and associated systems and subsystems, creation of spaceports for launching and receiving spacecraft. ✔ Up to 74% for satellite manufacturing and operation, satellite data products and ground segment and user segment. ✔ Up to 100% for manufacturing components and systems and subsystems for satellites, ground segment and user segment. 🌏 It's time to explore space in India. 🌏 You're a startup or enabler wanting to explore or expand to India? ➡ Check out our work on ginsep.co and reach out to us for support 💡

On October 2024, dozens of participants of many different nationalities and educational backgrounds filled the Agorà Hall of I3P - Innovative Companies Incubator of Politecnico Torino with their curiosity, inventiveness and passion for #space. It was the beginning of the eighth edition of #SpaceAppsTurin! The hackathon continued uninterruptedly for 24 hours, including the night, until the delivery of the projects, the pitch of the elaborated solutions and the award ceremony for the most promising teams, which could one day evolve into real innovative start-uppers. Pixxel, an Indian SpaceTech startup, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian company to secure a contract under NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's $476 million smallsat data collection program. Reported by Business Standard, Shine Jacob's article highlights Pixxel’s role in advancing hyperspectral earth observation for NASA’s environmental monitoring. NASA is set to provide advanced training to Indian astronauts! Context: Last week, ISRO Chairman Somanath met with Eric Garcetti, the U.S. Ambassador to India, along with several entrepreneurs, VCs, and business leaders to discuss robust economic and commercial relations between the U.S. and India. US India Business Council and US Commercial Service Hyderabad, India hosted the meeting in Bangalore. ✅ 5 noteworthy discussion points: 1. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration will soon provide advanced training to Indian astronauts for a joint mission to the International Space Station. 2. The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar mission (NISAR) satellite will be launched from ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre to monitor Earth's resources like sea level rise, natural hazards, and other aspects. 3. Projects like Artemis Accord and collaborations with startups will create high-tech and high-paying jobs for both Indians and Americans. 4. Several industry leaders including the American Chamber of Commerce India, NASA, NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, and the Indian government attended the meeting. They will focus on the U.S.-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology for expanding strategic security and technology cooperation. 5. The U.S. is also in discussion to develop a "QUAD satellite" involving the partnership with India. As a token of support, NASA will also participate in India's proposal for a G-20 satellite for environment and climate change, and encourage cooperation between commercial companies from both countries. We would be lying if we said we haven’t been fascinated by space ever. From making those school projects of the solar system to watching all mind-boggling visuals in sci-fi movies to “becoming an astronaut” being the first ambition in life as kids, space has been one of the first fascinations for a lot of us. The fascination now only grows with seeing how some innovators in this sector are building real yet out of the world businesses. While the western world now has a fairly advanced economy across the space value chain, India has been showcasing global leadership with its cost-effective and bold space exploration programmes. Thanks to ISRO, India also has the requisite talent and a decent supply chain to potentially build upon and become a future global leader and exporter in space tech. Indian spacetech startup Pixxel has secured a $476 million contract from NASA, the largest supplier deal awarded to an Indian company by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This marks Pixxel as the first Indian startup to clinch a NASA contract.Under the agreement, Pixxel will provide hyperspectral data to NASA, the US government, and academic partners. Hyperspectral data is a type of remote sensing that measures the reflectance of objects across a continuous range of wavelengths, enabling the identification and mapping of various materials and objects on Earth's surface. Pixxel's hyperspectral data will be utilized for diverse applications such as agricultural monitoring, environmental surveillance, and disaster response.
