Be Great on Purpose! Be sure about what you want from life and doubly sure of what you have to give in return. Examine the lives of successful people, and you will find that they have paid a price that is in direct proportion to the amount of success they have earned. Close examination will almost always reveal years of study and preparation before great success is achieved. This principle is consistent in virtually every field of individual achievement—in the arts, medicine, science, or business. Nothing worthwhile ever comes easily. As you consider your own goals, also consider what you are willing to sacrifice for what you expect to receive. It is best if you are prepared to give generously your time and talents long before expecting a return on your investment. Many "overnight successes" labored in obscurity for many years before they were recognized for their achievements.

It’s summertime! The academic year at colleges and universities has concluded and our campuses have gone quiet(er) in terms of students. My 10-month faculty just went off contract on June 15th and except for those teaching summer classes, faculty offices have gone quiet(er) as well. As we look forward to vacation time with family to mentally recharge, summer can be a time to recharge professionally. Whether it is your time to read that stack of work-related books you could not get to, earn a certification, take a graduate course, or overall upskill in a new area, what is the ONE thing you want to accomplish professionally this summer? I’ll go first…I have some new certifications I need to earn in preparation for my new job here at Carroll. More on that in another post. 😊

I recently had the great privilege of speaking at not one, but two panels at the inaugural Human Potential Summit, joining employers, innovators, educators and policymakers in a series of conversations that included powerful messages from Jobs for the Future (JFF) CEO Maria Flynn and Opportunity@Work CEO Byron Auguste. Together with Ramona Schindelheim of WorkingNation and Ares Management Corporation's Michelle Armstrong we had a lively discussion about the clean energy economy and climate-resilient workforce pathways. Creating a better future for all Americans requires collaboration across public and private sectors, employers and non-profits. At Trane Technologies, we're a global leader in climate innovation, and we've never been shy about boldly challenging what's possible - for our planet and our people. ⭐ We've removed degree requirements from dozens of positions, opening access to the 70 million Americans who are STARs - those Skilled Through Alternative Routes. ⭐ We're pioneering new pathways into quality jobs with the Trane Apprenticeship Program, which now has over 160 apprentices in 29 states. ⭐ We're enabling career growth, not just job growth, through benefits like tuition advancement that include certifications. (And PS - we're hiring. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dDeyE-YT) 📷 : Stand Together

Back in February 2018, I decided to do something crazy and sign up for a Bachelor of Information Technology. At the time I had a 1 year old and 5 year old, I was working 3 days a week and thought I could finish it in 4 -5 years. After 6.5 years of very late nights, 2 COVID lockdowns, homeschooling, 3 jobs plus increasing to full time, and the great burnout of 2021...I finally submitted my last assignment in August this year (right after being rear ended while racing home to get to another group meeting). On Wednesday I got to put on all the ceremonial dress and formally be presented with my testamur. What I learnt from this was 1. It's completely fine to have no idea what you want to do with your life when you leave high school, because when you're older and a little wiser you find what you're really passionate about. 2. Life doesn't end at 30, it's really just beginning. 3. Group assignments are terrible and in no way represent the amazing people you will have the privilege of working with in a real workplace. 4. Chocolate bullets are my favourite study food. What I hope my 2 girls learn from watching me Graduate 1. Just because you're a woman, doesn't mean you still can't do whatever you want! 2. It's completely fine to want it all, or only a little bit. Life is what you make it, not what society dictates what you should be doing 3. Just because it's hard, doesn't mean it's not worth it! Nothing handed to you in life is ever going to feel as good as earning it for yourself! 4. But also... surround yourself with people who lift you up and support you, that's the best way to believe you can truly achieve anything.

Juscenta Haligowski knows exactly what a difference post-secondary education can make to your future – and how a change in plans doesn’t have to mean an end to your studies. 👏 Originally planning to become an air traffic controller, Juscenta had to change direction during the COVID-19 pandemic. She’s now studying in the joint University of Winnipeg/Red River College Creative Communications program and is supported by KPMG Canada through our Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries & Scholarships (BBF) program. She says: “I have no words to express how much this helps me, and I hope you know that your contribution has made a big difference to both me and my family. With my education, I hope to expand my knowledge and further my connections with others by learning about their experiences. Once finished university, I would like a career in broadcast media. I would like to have a career that positively affects others and the community. In media, I think there are so many people that deserve representation and I want to work towards making sure voices are heard…I really appreciate the work that is being done to make sure Indigenous students have what they need to succeed…Things like bursaries and scholarships can really make a difference.” Learn more about Juscenta’s story here. 👇 https://lnkd.in/d8WJTFK #Bursaries #Scholarships #IndigenousStudents #IndigenousEducation #Scholarship

As we bid adieu to 2024, I wanted to touch on a few things that 2024 showed/reminded me. 1. It's never too late. I have seen folks start their own businesses and thrive at the age or 65, I have seen people change careers at 60 and I have seen mindsets change after decades of following one school of thought. 2. It's OK if you did not accomplish everything you hoped for in 2024. Each unsuccessful goal was a learning experience. Build upon it. 3. Have the right outlook and approach in life. Instead of looking at things as won or lost, I look at them as either I won or I learnt. It is impossible for you to fail if you approach any unsuccessful attempt as a learning opportunity. The path of least resistance to failure is giving up. 4. Always be ready. You never know what door may open when. 5. Have conversations and try to break out of your comfort zone. This last year, while working and attending college, I made many close friends in my classes who have truly added value to my life. Their knowledge and expertise in their field has helped me learn a lot more than I thought. 6. The most important one, we are all busy with something or the other. Make time for friends, family and yourself. The memories you make and the laughs you have will be those that you will remember forever. On that note, Happy New Year's and happy holidays to everyone. Stay curious my friends!

Forbes names UT a DREAM employer! The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been named to Forbes magazine’s inaugural list of America’s Dream Employers, announced Nov. 26. Having worked at UT for several years now, I can testify that UT is a wonderful place to work...one of the best in my career. They offer a wide variety of roles on and off campus and they really want employees to thrive and build long-term careers. America’s Dream Employers 2025 includes a diverse array of employment sectors including health care, government, higher education, finance and service industries. Earlier this year Forbes recognized UT as one of America’s top colleges and the top public college in Tennessee, one of the best employers for new graduates and one of the country’s best large employers. Talk about being proud to be a Tennessee Vol! 🍊 These recognitions are not possible without solid leadership throughout the UT system. The full list of dream employers is available on the Forbes website. University of Tennessee, Knoxville

🤝“What is a university placement and why is it important? In alumni Fernanda Torres Alam’s and Josefina Mas' words, the IIPP Placement is “the perfect opportunity to apply theory to action while also continuing to enrich our understanding of new policy frameworks." The placement programme offers collaborations with a wide range of organisations on diverse challenge briefs. From institutionalising new economic thinking to elaborating civic engagement strategies, MOIN partners enabled us to explore many of our diverse interests while also inviting us to apply core the learnings of our course, and ultimately improve our employability.” 🔗Learn more about IIPP placements here: https://lnkd.in/e7J2GM4X
