Product featured in this News Article: uSINE: uSINE® is the world’s first AI ultrasound guidance software that automatically identifies spinal landmarks with guidance markers so that doctors can locate and place the needle at an accurate and precise location. Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) was named this week as a High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report. CVMC was the only hospital in the Unifour region to earn this distinction. U.S. News evaluated hospitals from across the nation that provide labor and delivery services and submitted detailed data to the publication for analysis; 680 hospitals, an all-time high, participated in this year’s U.S. News survey. The evaluation assists expectant parents, in consultation with their doctors, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care. “Hospitals that receive a High Performing designation as part of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care meet a high standard in caring for parents with uncomplicated pregnancies,” said Jennifer Winston, Ph.D., health data scientist at U.S. News. “These hospitals have C-section rates that are 26 percent lower, and newborn complication rates that are 37 percent lower than unrecognized hospitals that participated in the survey.” The U.S. News Best Hospitals for Maternity Care methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates, birthing-friendly practices and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities, among other measures. Michelle Lusk, Chief Nursing Officer at CVMC, said, “This distinction highlights the amazing care that our team provides to mothers, babies and families.” Jackie Miller, CVMC assistant vice president who oversees the Women & Children’s service line, added, “We are proud to be recognized for this prestigious award. Using the Concord Birth Flow for Optimal Cord Management in preterm babies
Welcoming the first hospital in the United Kingdom to our Concord Community! Whittington Health is the first hospital in the UK to have implemented the Concord Birth Flow and Trolley. Hospitals in the UK were among the first in the world to adopt and implement new methods to stabilize newborns with an intact umbilical cord. Whittington Health is the first hospital in the UK to take #OptimalCordManagement in preterm babies to the next level with the implementation of the #ConcordBirthFlow and #ConcordBirthTrolley. This approach allows the birthing and resuscitation team at the hospital to stabilize the baby with an intact cord, until the baby’s transition is completed physiologically. Dr. Wynne Leith (Leith Wynne), Consultant Neonatologist and Dr. Chandrima Biswas (Chandrima Biswas), Consultant Obstetrician at Whittington Health comment: “We are excited to implement the Concord Birth Trolley, which will help us to provide #intactcordresuscitation for the majority of our preterm babies for as long as possible - this also includes caesarean births.” https://lnkd.in/eBNEvv7r #cordclamping #cordmanagement #birth #pbcc #concordcommunity

New Neonatal Care Leave is incoming …! From 6th April 2025 a new day one right to Neonatal Care Leave (NCL) will be introduced, along with potential statutory neonatal care pay (SNCP). This is a game changer for parents whose newborns need extended hospital care, giving them vital time to focus on their child without the added stress of returning to work prematurely. Here’s a breakdown of the key details: 💡Who qualifies? Parents of babies admitted into neonatal care within the first 28 days of life, for a continuous stay of 7 days or more. 💡What does it include? Up to 12 weeks’ leave, in addition to any existing entitlements (e.g., maternity or paternity leave). 💡Statutory Neonatal Care Pay (SNCP) for eligible parents. To qualify, parents must: - Have 26 weeks of continuous service. - Meet the minimum earnings threshold of £123 per week. - SNCP will be paid at the statutory rate or 90% of earnings, whichever is lower. 💡 When does it take effect? Subject to Parliamentary approval, this will become law on 6th April 2025. This legislation ensures that parents can focus on what truly matters during an incredibly challenging time. Employers should begin planning now to adapt policies and support their teams. Got questions about how this change might impact your business or team? Or need a policy writing? Let’s chat!

In the ever-evolving landscape of maternity care, hospitals are continually seeking innovative ways to enhance the birthing experience for expectant mothers. One such innovation gaining momentum is the integration of water birth pools within hospital facilities. Far from being a mere trend, water birth pools offer a myriad of benefits that not only prioritize the well-being of both mother and child but also contribute to a more holistic and empowering birthing experience.

🌟Developments in Neonatal Care🌟 The Scottish Government has unveiled a new model of neonatal care aimed at improving maternity and neonatal services in Scotland. The plan highlights the importance of a truly family-centred, safe, and compassionate approach which recognises everyone’s unique circumstances. These changes were recommended by an expert group, to improve how we care for pregnant women and babies. The ‘The Best Start: Five-Year Forward Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Care’, aims to keep mums and babies together as much as possible (see link to source below in the comments) If it is identified during the pregnancy that there is a high risk of the baby (or babies, in multiple pregnancies) needing highly specialist intensive care after birth. Under the new model of care mothers in suspected extreme pre-term labour will be transferred before they give birth (in-utero) to maternity units in the hospitals that have neonatal intensive care units. It is recognised that it will not always be possible to transfer mothers before they give birth, and in those cases our specialist neonatal transfer service, #ScotSTAR will transfer those babies in specialist ambulances equipped to care for neonates (this has been established practice for many years). Babies receiving care in one of the three intensive care units will be transferred back (repatriated) to their local neonatal unit for ongoing care as soon as possible. Key highlights: ✅ Centralisation of intensive care in three major hospitals. ✅ Enhanced support for families, including travel and meal cost coverage. ✅ Improved communication and care pathways between units. This initiative, part of the "Best Start" plan, underscores their commitment to family-centered, safe, and compassionate care. Local neonatal units will continue to support families, and measures are in place to aid parents with travel and accommodation costs, keeping families together during critical times. Let's work together to make a significant impact on neonatal care in Scotland! September Bill of the Month | Slashing Overpriced Bills for Newborn Care, Preserving Family Savings When an underweight newborn struggled with feeding, the baby was admitted to the Level II Neonatal Special Care Nursery at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA, for five days. Despite the baby’s relatively stable condition, the hospital issued an exorbitant medical bill of $119,245 for the stay. WellRithms’ advanced bill review algorithms in combination with our team of physician and surgeon bill reviewers immediately identified the charges as unreasonably inflated. To put this in perspective, the facility’s average contractual discount (ACD) is 91%, which highlights how frequently charges at this hospital are inflated. To add insult to injury, our team received a reconsideration request that offered only a 25% discount off the original charges—a far cry from what was reasonable. After a thorough review, WellRithms repriced the bill down to $14,810— a 91% discount from the original charges and in line with their ACD. Thanks to our expertise, this substantial reduction could mean that the baby’s family preserves savings for their future rather than being burdened by astronomical medical bills. For more information on how WellRithms can help you reduce inflated healthcare costs, contact info@wellrithms.com. https://lnkd.in/gM-pr8ur
