That’s a wrap!
As my first year with Cardiff Community Housing Association ends, I’m reflecting on a truly transformative experience. Starting with major imposter syndrome, I’ve grown into my role, discovering confidence and recognising my worth as a professional.
CCHA has given me the confidence to explore so many aspects of content creation, even some I’d never had the opportunity to try before. I’ve gone from directing company videos and on-site filming in “spooky” homes, to documentary and podcast creation, graphic design, event photography, mentoring others and even creating the branding for an entirely new development. Rediscovering animation has been a surprise highlight; eight animated videos later, I’m doing things I never thought I would again. For someone like me, who thrives on variety, this year has been a dream come true.
What makes CCHA special is the autonomy. I decide how to deliver projects and what mediums to use. That trust has pushed me to continually improve.
It’s also the only place I’ve worked without any toxicity. The people here are supportive, inspiring, and honestly, so much fun. I’ve made some wonderful friends (and some wonderfully annoying ones – I’m looking at you, Ruby Williams and @HuwPardoe).
It’s not just about the work, though. CCHA has some of the most creative employee engagement initiatives I’ve ever seen— from mental health walks to tea parties, board game lunches, and even raft races! Saying “yes” to these things, even when they’re a bit scary or unfamiliar, has made my time here unforgettable. A special shout-out to Rhys Hutchings and the Wellbeing Group for organising these events—you’ve had a bigger impact than you know. Keep doing what you’re doing; it really does make a difference.
I also want to highlight the HR team, especially Seb York MCIPD. You’ve been an incredible support this year (especially your hugs) and your dedication to employees is something every organisation should aspire to.
CCHA hasn’t just supported me emotionally; they’ve invested in me professionally too. From training opportunities to becoming a licensed drone operator (the coolest message from a manager: “Now you’ve learned to drive, how would you like to learn to fly a drone?”), this year has been all about growth. On a personal note, it's also been, quite literally, the year of transport for me!
Finally, and most importantly, I have to thank my incredible team: Nia Rolfe, Catrin Williams, Nuri Santiaguillo (who has flown the nest), and our wonderful new teammates, Laila and Talaz. You’ve made me laugh when I needed it most, supported me through challenges, and trusted me to flourish. I’ve never met a more trusting manager Nia, and a more supportive teammate Catrin. I couldn’t have done this without you.
Here’s to 2025—I can’t wait to see what’s next!
P.S. this post was honestly so much longer - damn you word count, let me ramble!
As another year comes to a close, we’d like to say thank you.
Thank you to all our tenants, colleagues and partners for being a part of our journey.
We've come a long way together.
Here's some of the highlights.
