I recently came across Uber latest ad on women’s safety in India. The intent behind the campaign is commendable highlighting the critical issue of women’s safety in public spaces and transport. However, it raised some thought-provoking points for me about the nuances of representation in such narratives. One particular aspect in the ad stood out: a scene where a male friend calling to check in on female friend’s safety was questioned. While I understand the context Uber is trying to address, such gestures can often be genuinely caring and helpful rather than problematic. It’s a reminder that our messaging should not inadvertently discourage well-meaning actions. Additionally, while conversations around women’s safety are necessary and important, it’s also crucial to expand the narrative to include men’s safety and mental well-being. In today’s society, men face their own vulnerabilities—be it emotional distress, mental health challenges, or even being victims of harassment and false accusations. A truly inclusive approach to safety should address the realities faced by all genders. Brands like Uber have the power to shape public opinion and foster positive change. By broadening the scope of such campaigns, we can create a dialogue that acknowledges and supports everyone’s safety, well-being, and dignity. What are your thoughts on striking this balance in brand messaging? Would love to hear perspectives! #Inclusivity #SafetyForAll

Women’s safety isn’t a punchline. One day when my daughter Ayatal's phone died during her commute back from aerial rope class in Santa Cruz in public transport, that wait turned into a parent's worst nightmare for me. Uber's Ride Check and Share Your Trip features are exactly what I wished during those anxious hours. But the journey doesn’t end here. To work towards a world where women’s safety is a non-negotiable is a shared responsibility. That's why I deeply appreciate Uber India's newest campaign with Shreeja Chaturvedi. With them you know that – women's safety isn't a punchline, it's a priority backed by technology; because every journey should end with a safe return home, not hours of anxiety. #SafetyNeverStops #SaferRidesWithUber #WomenSafety

Uber India recently announced a commendable initiative to include women drivers in its fleet, aimed at enhancing safety and providing a better experience for women customers. • This step, though small, deserves recognition amidst the ongoing challenges Uber faces concerning employee satisfaction and customer grievances. • It represents a much-needed move towards inclusivity and equality in the transportation sector. Impact on Society 💪 : • Introducing women drivers helps challenge long-standing stereotypes that have traditionally confined women to homemaking roles. • This initiative breaks barriers and paves the way for women to step confidently into roles that have historically been male-dominated. • It also opens doors to income opportunities, empowering women to become independent and contribute as breadwinners. Customer Perspective 👀 : • For women customers, this initiative instills a sense of safety and comfort, particularly when traveling late at night or in unfamiliar locations. • Expanding this initiative to all cities in the country would create a more inclusive and secure travel environment, reinforcing the idea that women are equal participants in society, both as service providers and consumers. Broader Social Impact 🛐 : • Uber Women Drivers could inspire countless women by offering visible role models who challenge societal norms and stereotypes. • This initiative has the potential to create a ripple effect, encouraging other industries to take similar steps toward inclusivity. Vision for Growth 📈 : • With consistent efforts and support, this program can grow into a significant force for societal change. • It can help create a safe space where women are valued and seen as equals, not just in transportation but across various sectors. Hoping this step creates a big impact—ensuring that one woman drives home safely while another takes pride in being a breadwinner. #UBERINDIA #WOMENSAFETY
Safety shouldn’t be something we worry about during a ride, but it’s a constant thought for many women. Uber India is addressing this with initiatives focused on women’s safety, offering features like 24x7 Safety Support, RideCheck, Share Your Trip, and phone number anonymity. Additionally, if a ride stops unexpectedly before the destination, passengers will receive a call to check if everything’s okay. These tools go beyond just a ride, creating a safer experience and ensuring every journey feels secure, no matter the time or place. #UberIndia #WomenSafety

I trusted Uber’s safety measures—until I saw this. This horrifying incident: https://lnkd.in/g3JPkkqB has left me shaken. As someone who believed in Uber’s promises of safety, it’s devastating to see how women continue to face such dangers while using ride-hailing services. Campaigns and promises mean nothing if they don’t translate into real safety on the ground. Women deserve better. We deserve to commute without fear, without constantly questioning whether we’ll make it home safe. Safety isn’t optional—it’s non-negotiable. Until companies like Uber step up, trust will remain broken, and women will remain at risk. Let’s raise our voices and demand accountability. Together, we can push for the change we deserve. #WomensSafety #UberAccountability #EnoughIsEnough

At Uber, we believe that a safe journey is the foundation for women to realize their dreams and achieve economic empowerment. Women’s safety isn’t just a priority for us—it’s a responsibility we actively embrace every single day. From enhancing safety features on the app to forging partnerships with organizations working to support women, we’ve implemented multiple initiatives to ensure women feel confident and secure while using our platform—whether as riders or driver-partners. Our safety toolkit includes features like 1. Live GPS Tracking, 2. Share my trip 3. the In-App Emergency Button, 4. RideCheck Technology, providing real-time support and ensuring peace of mind. We also have a Driving Change program which aims to break barriers for women entering industries like ride-hailing, where representation has historically been low. Using tech we are bringing in features like 'Women rider preferred' which can enable women drivers to choose to receive ride requests exclusively from women riders. Recently, as part of this commitment, we also collaborated on a powerful and witty video featuring stand-up comics on "Women’s Safety is Not a Joke." While we see the irony in the humour, the issue demands our collective action. A year ago, I used to travel in Uber late at night, feeling confident that I’d reach my destination safely. But, today I can’t help but feel uneasy. I recently came across an article that deeply troubled me. https://lnkd.in/gbjSFP9G It’s stories like these that make you wonder—if ride-hailing services claim to prioritize women’s safety, why are these incidents still happening? Uber like many other platforms, promotes safety features like 1. Live GPS Tracking, 2. Share my trip 3. the In-App Emergency Button, 4. RideCheck Technology, providing real-time support and ensuring peace of mind. They say they care about women’s safety, but these features alone are not enough. It’s not just about having a toolkit of safety options, it’s about ensuring that those measures are effective and truly make women feel secure. I’ve also heard about some disturbing experiences where women are said to cancel their rides and accept rides directly from them. Apparently, they would make more money this way, maybe because they get less salary. The truth is, while Uber markets these safety features, the reality is far from safe. If a woman can’t trust a cab ride, what does that say about the safety standards we claim to have in place? Where is the accountability from these companies? We need to demand better. Why are these incidents still happening, despite all the promises of safety features? Uber talks about safety, but why are women still feeling unsafe in their rides? #WomenSafety #Uber #SafeTravels

The thing about safety is that you can never really be done doing that work. It's something that you need to keep working on because there is almost always room for improvement. At Uber, it’s a core value that drives us to innovate and invest in technology to keep raising the bar for the entire industry. The subject of safety itself is serious - even anxiety-inducing for some and Uber's safety features like real-time GPS tracking, phone-number anonymisation, SOS-integration or ride-check can sound technical. By framing safety in a conversational way that highlights everyday reality for women, our campaign #SafetyNeverStops really puts a spotlight on relatable safety challenges women face and Uber's efforts to make every trip safer. A big thank you to the teams at Uber who obsess over Safety and the ones that worked on bringing this campaign to life.
