Last week, through our Gender and Advocacy function, we were in Penhalonga, Manicaland District. There, we engaged with key voices in the area and discussed ways to totally eradicate gender-based violence from our society.
At Higherlife Foundation, we have designed our systems with women in mind; this is why they make up 65% of our scholarship and climate-smart agriculture programs.
We will continue to invest in women, giving them the necessary support and tools to transform their lives and communities.

Still talking about our women, how can we ensure their success in agriculture?
Women in agriculture play a critical role in feeding their families and communities, yet they often face significant challenges that hinder their potential.
Empowering women farmers requires community support. Here's how:
Access to Resources: Communities can organize cooperatives and lending schemes to provide women with land, credit, seeds, and tools.
Education and Training: Local centers can offer training on sustainable farming practices and business management.
Support Networks: Establishing mentorship programs can help women share knowledge and gain confidence.
Market Access: Communities can set up local markets and connect women farmers with larger buyers.
Advocacy: Collective voices can push for policies that promote gender equality and protect women’s land rights.
Empowering women in agriculture is a collective effort. Let’s provide the resources, knowledge, and opportunities they need to thrive. Support local cooperatives, volunteer, advocate for policies, and buy from women farmers.
What other way can the community be of help?
Let’s know in the comment section. Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable agricultural sector. Be part of the change!
In Kamuli, SSA is implementing the Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM) to promote equitable land registration, with a focus on empowering women. Harmful cultural norms have long denied women the right to own or inherit land, leaving many vulnerable. But change is happening.
Justine Wakayembe, a dedicated community member, is one of the many women embracing this initiative. Her story highlights the importance of land registration in ensuring security and safeguarding the future for women and their families.

AGRICHOUSE FOUNDATION'S MISSION.
farmers with disabilities encounter barriers such as inadequate access to adaptive tools and technologies, making farming tasks challenging. Societal attitudes and a lack of awareness about disability issues further marginalize these farmers.
A comprehensive approach involving adaptive equipment, specialized training, and inclusive policies is necessary to support them effectively. Raising awareness and fostering acceptance of farmers with disabilities can create a more inclusive farming community.
Advocating for gender equality and disability inclusion in agriculture is crucial.
Supporting these women farmers, farmers with disabilities, and women in the agricultural value chain has been at the forefront of Agrihouse Foundation’s mission through its Women in Food and Agricultural Leadership Training Forum (WOFAGRIC) and Gold in the Soil Awards.
For the past five years, this initiative has provided a platform for women to showcase their talents, skills, and innovations in agriculture. Through leadership training, skills development, and mentorship, the initiative has empowered women to take up leadership roles, drive innovation, and contribute to the development of the agricultural sector

For International Women’s Day we wanted to just highlight two key things and also acknowledge & celebrate women in ag
- Women with disability represent 31% of the total agricultural workforce of workers with disability - ABS2021
- the underrepresentation of female farmers and agricultural workers in farmer disability research and mental health studies, unknown data means it can be hard to deliver holistic programs, support and outcomes that represent the true diversity in agriculture
