Electric Vehicles 🚗⚡️ (1min read) Electric cars are set to dominate the future automotive landscape—it's undeniable. However, challenges pose, particularly surrounding the cost and longevity of batteries. Innovation in this area will be key to ensuring a sustainable and efficient transition to electric vehicles. One crucial question remains: what solutions can we develop for the responsible disposal or recycling of batteries once their lifecycle ends? This is a vital aspect of ensuring the environmental benefits of electric vehicles are fully realized. #EV #Electriccars #Tesla #RenewableEbergy #SolarEnergy

Considering the ~zero marginal cost of renewable energy, the situation is much more dramatic than merely ‘improving competitiveness’ of batteries as the excellent chart shows below by Tom T. . At current price levels, batteries already are beating legacy energy assets in nearly all circumstances. No wonder fossil fuel companies are fighting like a wounded animals for survival. It will get even bloodier 🩸 More important cost metric is the *cycle cost* of batteries, ie when the material cost is a diminishing part of the total cost and therefore the number of cycles that a battery remains viable is far more important. Example: batteries manufactured 10 years ago lasted, if treated well, perhaps 2000-2500 cycles. The batteries manufactured today can last 6000-8000 cycles. More than the absolute upfront capex amount declining from $1500 to $150/kWh today (10x decrease), the current chemistries last 4x longer in use. This means the cost hasn’t declined just 10x, but actually 40x!

90% reduction in cost of batteries (EV and Storage) in under 15 years!… economies of scale at work. It’s inevitable a similar trajectory for charge hardware and software will follow in terms of both cost and performance!… at this inflection point, there will be only skeptic arguments for EV adoption left… everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine may be wrong also. But I’d edge my bets in the EV market.

Environmental Week Vic Reflections EWV 18 In the last 15 years, the price of batteries has decreased by over 90%🔋. But not only that, they have also improved significantly. This is due to the technological revolution we are living in, a lifestyle where consumption demands a continuous improvement process to remain attractive to the consumer. 📉We have seen this not only in batteries but also in cameras, external memories, and other devices. We know that batteries are not the best solution, as they also have a high environmental cost and their raw materials are scarce and rare. 🌱However, they are a much more effective solution than burning fossil fuels, and they will be even more so in the near future due to their development. This, or some derivative like hydrogen batteries that use the same chemical principle.

🙋 Are electric vehicles the only path to a greener future? Toyota's bold 1:6:90 rule challenges that notion. 💡The idea: The resources needed to build one EV battery could power six plug-in hybrids or a staggering 90 standard hybrids. Toyota argues this translates to significantly more carbon emissions saved over time. 🤔 Is Toyota's focus on hybrid tech a smart play in the face of material shortages, or a reluctance to fully embrace the EV revolution? #Toyota #hybrid #EV #electricvehicles #sustainability #innovation #automotive #climatechange #greenenergy #carbonfootprint #futureofmobility #transportation #technology #environment #cleanenergy #ecofriendly #batterytech #emissions #lithium #electrification #automotiveindustry #greentech #future

Electric cars will continue with strong demand for a few reasons. First: better driving experience. Second: innovation slowly/painfully but steadily in batteries. Third: green energy subsidies and regulations now and into the foreseeable future.
