A new #algorithm is presented! 🔦 🤝 Gepetto Group (ROB, LAAS-CNRS) team and our partner’s Inria WILLOW team worked together and introduced, at the RSS'24 Conference, a new parallel algorithm that significantly enhances the #efficiency of Model Predictive Control (MPC) for #robotics. 🤖 This new approach speeds up the solution of large-scale linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) problems by enabling concurrent processing, making real-time control more feasible. Implemented in our aligator library, this algorithm has been successfully tested on a real quadruped robot, demonstrating its potential to revolutionize MPC tasks in robotics. In late July 2024, California-based startup Vayu Robotics unveiled a delivery robot called One. This machine can follow store employees as they pick up an order, and then deliver goods on its own, moving along city streets at a speed of about 30 km/h. The One platform features a special machine vision system that does not require lidars and other expensive components. Instead, it uses the Vayu Sense unit, which combines affordable CMOS image sensors with modern computer imaging methods. This patented technology is said to outperform conventional RGB cameras and LiDAR sensors. The Vayu Sense module is responsible for high-resolution machine vision, depth perception, object detection, and the ability to work effectively in complex conditions.
