On this day, and every day, celebrate women business owners! In addition to gender bias and systemic discrimination, many women entrepreneurs face barriers to financing, services, and supports. These challenges are amplified for women entrepreneurs from underrepresented groups, such as racialized and Indigenous women, those living with disabilities, or those identifying as LGBTQ2S+. Despite the multitude of challenges experienced by women entrepreneurs, the women in this segment of the Canadian economy have continued to demonstrate ingenuity, resilience, and tenacity. TWO STEPS FORWARD, THREE STEPS BACK: THE ONGOING STRUGGLE OF WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP ROLES The South African support for women in leadership is often perceived as merely symbolic, lacking the substantive backing necessary for women to thrive in these roles. The battle for women to attain leadership roles in South Africa did not start on 09 August 1956, but that date marks a pivotal moment in the broader struggle for women's rights and equality.

It's International Women's Day - a day I always use to focus on planning in our business each year. I plan what we will do as a business for the next 12 months, to increase financial literacy for women, to make sure that women have safe spaces where they can ask the hard financial questions, where we support & create in-person events & provide information specifically for women to support them in their financial futures. The theme for International Women's Day this year is #InvestInWomen - there are five key areas needing joint action: 🩷Investing in women, a human rights issue: Time is running out. Gender equality is the greatest human rights challenge, benefiting everyone. 🩷 Ending poverty: Due to the COVID pandemic and conflicts, 75 million more people have fallen into severe poverty since 2020. Immediate action is crucial to prevent over 342 million women and girls living in poverty by 2030. 🩷 Implementing gender-responsive financing: Conflicts and rising prices may lead 75% of countries to cut public spending by 2025, negatively impacting women and their essential services. 🩷 Shifting to a green economy and care society: The current economic system disproportionately affects women. Advocates propose a shift to a green economy and care society to amplify women's voices. 🩷 Supporting feminist change-makers: Despite leading efforts, feminist organizations receive only 0.13% of official development assistance. #queenofstraightupadvice #northlandshomebuyingspecialist #northlandsempireprotector #accelerateprogress

While it's imperative to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women on International Women's Day (March 8), so much hard work remains for women to secure gender equity. The responsibility to advance women's economic equality rests not just on the shoulders of women who refuse to back down but, even more, on those of men who possess the professional, cultural, economic, and political power that is required to develop, invest in, promote, and uphold corporate and government programs and policies that effect measurable change. The cultural and systemic challenges that women still face are put into sharp focus by Josie Cox in her new book, "Women Money Power: The Rise and Fall of Economic Equality," which provides historical context on the towering, yet often unknown work of women whose fight for money, power and economic equality was instrumental to our progress—and why things have stalled or are regressing in recent years on closing the gender income/wealth gap, safeguarding women's reproductive rights, reducing poverty (which largely affects women and children), and protecting women from sexual violence, harassment, and discrimination. If you do nothing else on March 8th, buy Cox's book and recommend it to others—men and women alike—who believe that women's equality is a fundamental human right and essential to economic growth. Even better: buy Cox's book at a women-owned or co-owned independent bookstore. On International Women’s Day (IWD), I wish to recognize and celebrate women’s and girls’ social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. March 8 serves as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, as it places focus on gender equality, reproductive rights and violence and harm against women and girls.    The theme for IWD 2024 is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” It is a clear call to action and a reminder that gender equality is one of the most effective ways to build healthier, wealthier, and more inclusive communities. The IWD theme and description focus on the importance of “women’s and girls’ rights across all aspects of life to secure prosperous and just economies, and a healthy planet for future generations.” (https://lnkd.in/gcaT7auB) I would like to recognize that all gender expressions are valid, should be respected, and honoured equally. I also acknowledge that people who identify as women can come to womanhood in different ways and at different times and through different experiences.    This IWD, join me in celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about discrimination and acting in support of gender parity. Today marks the beginning of Women's History Month. A month set aside to commemorate and celebrate women's vital role in the evolution and growth of society. Though the month of March is dedicated to women, women deserve to be celebrated all the time. The United Nations theme for IWD 2024, “Invest in women: Accelerate progress” is a call to corporations and governments around the world to address gender inequalities that remain one of the greatest human rights challenges. While many women are overcoming stereotypes and succeeding in their roles, many others are victims of inequality, and other kinds of rights violations. Happy Women’s Month to our friends and partners in South Africa! August is a time to honor the historic 1956 moment when the Federation of South African Women changed the world. Mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends peacefully marched together with courage and resolve to the Union Buildings to challenge the oppressive Pass Laws of the apartheid government. These laws sought to reduce women to passive beings at the mercy of men, but these women stood firm and declared, "Enough is enough." Moments like these remind me that women have always been at the forefront of historical revolutions, peacebuilding, and justice - even when it seems the world insists on overlooking their contributions these days. It also underscores the reality that gender equality and racial inequality are inextricably linked. Sustainable peace depends on women. This is exactly why it was important for us that Orange bonds can be mobilized for peace (more on this in this week’s live session on Orange Bond Verification Training!).
