New figures from Stats NZ and Infometrics confirm what many of us have been feeling recently – Hamilton has been packing on the people. Our population grew by 3.4% over the year to June 2023 – nudging Tauranga from its decades’ long occupation of the number one growth spot. As Priority One’s Nigell Tutt points out – it’s not actually a competition or zero sum game between Hamilton, Tauranga and Auckland. When one grows, we all grow – through the strength of our connections and growing interdependence of our economies. One such engine for growth and the more sustainable flow of goods between our cities is our Ruakura Superhub. I am sure it’s played its part in Hamilton’s growth – by attracting new investment and positive work opportunities with some of the world’s and country’s smartest supply chain players. It also supports my view that I’ve said out loud to anyone who will listen – that Hamilton is on a long-term track to be New Zealand’s second city. We will be a key part of what will be, in years to come, a New Zealand scale version of a megalopolis between and across the three cities and we should all be making investment decisions with this in mind. https://lnkd.in/g8Q4DsJe
