World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO The three universally basic IP based elements that make AI work are: 1. patented devices with high computational capability (fast GPUs, quantum, computers, etc.), 2. patented energy technologies (battery/electicity power supply), and 3. copyrighed metadata. The importance of computational capability has been taken for granted. Without electricity, the machine won't work. Also, battery accounts for 40% of the total cost of an electric machine, e.g., electric car. For in-house AI applications, the electricity bills of a C-level friend of ours has doubled because of using AI.💰🤑💸 Metadata is an enabler, a digital content, NOT a technology. It's like a treasure map, curated by human for treasure hunting. An interesting read, the first-ever report released by WIPO on World Intangible Investment Highlights. The data shows that investments in intangiblee assets has grown three times faster than those in physical assets. What stood out to me was that, excluding the informal sector, intangible investment in 2019 made up over 10 percent of India’s GDP, which is comparable to the EU-22 average (about 10 percent) and higher than in Japan (about 9 percent). Interestingly, India was the country that experienced the fastest growth in intangible investment from 2011 to 2020. Looking forward to the frameworks being developed to recognize the untapped potential of IP-based collaterals.
