It’s been a tough year in the recruiting business for many of us. 🥵 Hospitals are feeling the squeeze from all sides: escalating labor costs, stagnant reimbursement rates and denials from CMS and insurance companies, plus soaring prices for drugs and supplies. It’s a perfect storm of challenges. Now, while hospitals are still facing labor shortages and the need for strong leadership, every additional expense is scrutinized, with outside recruitment support often feeling like the main target. Many of us are working twice as hard for half the results, making more calls, doing more interviews, scheduling more meetings, and sending more emails (sorry about that one!)… but you know what? It’s actually brought a lot of joy back into recruiting for me. I’ve reconnected with people I haven’t spoken to in a long time, spending way more time with candidates and I’m spending more time with individuals I might not be able to place but can still help with insights and strategies. It’s reminded me why I do this—because deep down, I genuinely enjoy connecting with and helping people. I just like people… with the possible exception of Yankee fans. 😝 So, as I start my day and look at the 70+ calls on my list, I feel excited and ready to get to work.
