The Irish coastline doesn't stop being wild at Derry and Antrim so a proposal to extend the Wild Atlantic Way to the Causeway Coast does make economic sense. Incorporating a globally recognised brand with Northern Ireland's premier coastal trail can only be a good thing. The majority of visitors to the North come via the Republic. This is testament to the scale of Dublin Airport's passenger numbers and the connectivity from the ports of Dublin, Rosslare and Cork. From an industry point of view it allows the Wild Atlantic Way to offer more, enhancing the brand's range of attractions as well as lifting the Glens of Antrim and Causeway Coast to a global destination status. Indeed there is a danger that with the structure of Irish tourism promotion many budgets are competing against each other and real synergies as well as money can be lost because of a lack of cooperation. Cross border cooperation has brought dividends and opportunities for over 2 decades now as can be seen by the transformation of the tourist industry in Northern Ireland. Belfast's self confidence is a testament to that with its vibrant nightlife and world quality attraction in the Titanic Museum. We hope this can continue by extending the Wild Atlantic Way beyond Donegal. As Van Morrison is wont to say, "It's too late to stop now!" #WildAtlanticWay #CausewayCoast #HillwalkTours https://lnkd.in/dnNsdvf5

"Whether it is cruise ship or local visitor levies, it is imperative that industry works closely with local and national governments to ensure its introduction does not inflict lasting damage to Scotland’s tourism industry. For accommodation based on dry land, the visitor levy is coming whether we like it or not. "Ensuring that monies raised are ringfenced for tourist infrastructure projects is vital to retaining industry confidence. Fair rates, thoughtful implementation, as well as careful attention to potential unintended consequences are also essential. Failure to take these steps could result in a tourism levy that erodes the very industry it is supposedly intended to support. 'Tourism is worth €3bn per year to communities along the route, an increase of almost 60% on a decade ago. The Wild Atlantic Way was launched by Fáilte Ireland in 2014 as the country's first defined touring route. Stretching 2,500km, from Kinsale in Co Cork to the Inishowen Peninsula in Co Donegal, the aim of the Wild Atlantic Way is to create greater visibility for the west coast of Ireland in overseas tourist markets. It said tourism now accounts for 121,000 jobs along the route of the Wild Atlantic Way.' That is one project that probably over-delivered! 😉 I absolutely love that route ❤️ p.s. I took sentences out of the RTE article and just copy-pasted them. You should see how many mistakes Grammarly found in this RTE article... I guess that Grammarly isn't to be used blindly 😉 #businesssuccess #businessstrategy

Visitor Levy (Scotland) Act: Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities and What It Means for Self-Catering Operators The Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill was passed in May 2024 and became an Act in July 2024, granting local authorities in Scotland the power to introduce a levy on overnight accommodation if they choose to do so. While the new guidance developed by VisitScotland is primarily aimed at local authorities, it provides valuable insights into how a visitor levy scheme could affect businesses. Self-catering operators in areas where a levy is proposed are encouraged to participate in the required consultations to ensure their voices are heard. As a cultural tour operator and musician, I fully support efforts to bring balance and sustainability to #tourism. Many European cities, like Edinburgh, are facing overwhelming tourist numbers, and implementing a small tourist tax is a positive step towards finding a healthy balance. This tax can help preserve vital infrastructure, protect cultural traditions, and ensure that tourism continues to benefit local communities without compromising their way of life. It's about fostering a respectful and sustainable relationship between travelers and the destinations they visit. #SustainableTourism #CulturalPreservation #ResponsibleTravel https://lnkd.in/gRSJqgpG

#Taxes and fees:. #Venice recently launched an entry fee for tourists coming to see its famous canals but only staying for one day. The city also has an overnight tax in place, the rate of which is based on the number of nights spent and the level or number of stars the accommodation has. #Bans: #Amsterdam recently joined Venice as the latest destination to consider restricting tourist levels through bans of cruise ships in its city centres. While the plan has been approved by the city council, the changes have yet to be enacted. #Rewards for good behavior: #Copenhagen has taken a slightly different approach, rewarding visitors who contribute positively to the environment – litter picking or using public transport, for instance – with free food or cultural experiences, reports CNN. Setting #limits: The French city of #Marseilles introduced a reservation system to limit the number of tourists entering the Calanques National Park. It wanted to protect a cove it says is "the area's most sensitive, vulnerable, and degraded" site. https://lnkd.in/d5QZhjvt #tourism #Tourisminsights #pakistan #tourismindustry #AtharJ #ecotourism #sustainabletourism #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #tourismmarketing #60seconds

On Tuesday, the 10th of December, we will be closed for the day in solidarity with the Welsh Tourism and Hospitality Sector over the increasing challenges being imposed on small business owners in the sector, and now in addition a Wales Tourism Levy. This is just the start of the proposed protests which will follow across the whole tourism and hospitality sector into next season. These are desperate times, we are losing seasonal tourism businesses in droves across Wales, and especially here in the North. The mental health and wellbeing of small business owners is at an all-time low and the sector is in crisis, faced with constant hikes in seasonal staffing wages and other rapidly increasing costs of doing business, many of which are being deliberately imposed on us by the Welsh and Westminster governments, alongside greatly reduced visitor numbers. The last thing we need now is a tourism levy to further reduce visitor numbers and morale here in Wales as yet another blow to our second largest employment sector. The Welsh Government should be looking at ways to support the sector to secure jobs and businesses which are under threat at this time of crisis, not exploit it. The Wales Tourism and Hopitality Sector has been treated like the 'golden goose’ for too long and is in no position to survive further exploitation. This is a link to an article about it: https://lnkd.in/g7Gq3GNQ
