As we observe Women’s History Month and reflect on the incredible women who have shaped our lives and communities, I am compelled to pay tribute to my grandmother, Madie Maddox Smith-Moore, on the 1-year anniversary of her passing. Her impact continues to resonate deeply within our family and beyond, inspiring us to carry forward her unwavering commitment to service and empowerment through the Madie M. Smith Women's Health Equity Institute. Nana believed fervently in the power of leadership and advocacy, especially for those facing barriers due to gender and race. Her words, immortalized in her quote, serve as a guiding light for us all: “We should always be prayerful for the courage to lead when the odds are against you only because you are a woman and the color of your skin. When we get the opportunity to lead, we should mentor and uplift others with compassion, and respect.” – Madie Maddox Smith In her honor, we remain dedicated to embodying her principles through the framework of our 6 Over-Arching Pillars: 1. Leveraging intentional relationships, partnerships, and existing strengths collectively. 2. Fostering oneness and creating shared values. 3. Opening doors for the next generation to lead and serve. 4. Grounding our work in authenticity and data-driven insights. 5. Amplifying and honoring the lived experiences of women. 6. Mobilizing collective power to drive meaningful change in public policy for women’s health issues. Although a new website will roll out soon, learn more here about the institute: https://lnkd.in/enbK_PE6 #WomensHistoryMonth #Legacy #Leadership #Empowerment #MadieMaddoxSmith #WomenLeaders #Service #Advocacy

According to Fast Company, Black women hold only 4% of S&P 500 board seats. Black Women On Boards co-founders Merline Saintil and Robin Washington are working to change that and have already made significant strides. The BWOB Summit NYC was transformational—a day filled with magnetic energy, authentic connections, inspirational gems, elevating insights and mic-drop moments. A few things: ✨Rock star vs rock band—focus on the collective/broader team vs 1 person. 🧲 Be a talent magnet. 🗣️Keep key talent; communicate people’s value to them. 🦸🏾Lean into your superpower.-Christiane Pendarvis ⚡️Silence is power when you’ve already put your voice in the room.-Carla Harris 💡AI will change how people work…disruption doesn’t have to equal displacement. 📝Failure is not a crime; failure to learn from failure is a crime.-Kenneth C. Frazier 🧐Just because you haven’t done the thing yet doesn’t mean that you can’t/won’t learn how to do it. 🤩Don’t be afraid to take a chance on people.-Lloyd Yates May we continually remember that people truly are our greatest asset and govern ourselves accordingly. The panel focused on seeing the red flags re: is DEI really supported. Some things to look for: is DEI a department of one, is the function reporting to the CEO, what are the specific outcomes and progress milestones and am I championing things to get support or am I amplifying what is core to the business. This a journey, don’t bring unnecessary baggage, it will slow you down.

Black Women Empowered Incorporated The Glorious Season of The Black Woman As we speak, there are currently many global shifts in as many different fronts of the human experience. One of the most significant of these shifts, however, is the epochal move of the Black woman to the center stage of global influence in politics, in the boardroom, and in the humanities. In a society that leans heavily towards patriarchy, that is an unprecedented development. In emerging both as a cultural icon, and a symbol of current global ethos, the Black woman is nothing short of a testimony to incomparable strength, resilience, faith, and creativity. In fact, as cultural icons, Black women are now famed for unleashing remarkable transformation in their own lives, and in those of others, using the instrumentality of sheer industry, uncommon courage, unrivaled compassion and indomitability of spirit.
