The text is traditionally attributed to divine revelation by the Sun God, Surya, to Maya, the Asura, reflecting its deep cultural and spiritual significance. Below is an exploration of its astronomical concepts, its alignment with modern calculations, and the controversies surrounding its dating. *Key Celestial Concepts in the Surya Siddhanta* 1. *Celestial Bodies and Their Characteristics*:    - *Sun (Surya)*: Detailed as the central celestial body influencing planetary orbits.    - *Moon (Chandra)*: Its distance from the Earth is estimated with surprising accuracy, close to the modern average of ~384,400 km.    - *Planets*: Lists Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, with their periods of revolution.    - *Stars and Nakshatras*: Mentions 27 lunar constellations and their influence on Indian calendrical systems. 2. *Distances and Ratios*:    - The text mentions astronomical units that approximate modern calculations when converted, such as the Earth-Moon and Earth-Sun distances.    - The ratio of 108: The diameter of the Sun and Moon is approximately 108 times their respective distances from the Earth. Today, 18-May-2024 is International Astronomy Day. This day is celebrated to promote and celebrate the significance of astronomy. One fascinating fact that drew me closer to Astronomy is that 'W𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘧𝘧' (in the words of the famous Astronomer Carl Sagan). Have you ever wondered how the different extraterrestrial elements came to earth? The calcium in our bones, the iron in our blood, the gold that we wear as ornaments - all these were once part of stars somewhere in the Universe. When the stars exploded, it sent these materials flying into space. These elements could have been deposited on earth from visiting meteorites, comets or when the earth's core formed billions of years back. LONDON, Oct. 26.— Many thousands of wireless fans and professional and amateur astronomers in this country will concentrate attention on Mars tomorrow night when that planet will be only 42,000,000 miles from the earth. Clouds which are predicted by the weather experts may spoil the plans of the astronomers, but the wireless fans will listen ir with great interest and at one place all wave lengths are to be explored ranging from 30 meters to 40,000 meters. But their hopes of getting into communication with Mars will receive scant support from the leading astronomers. Dr. A. C. Crommelin of the Greenwich Observatory says: "It is a practical impossibility that Mars, if intelligence exists on that planet, should think of sending and we should think of receiving signals at the same moment. Probably the same stage of scientific knowledge on the two planets would be reached millions of years apart even supposing Mara has inhabitants. If there are intelligent inhabitants on Mars they would have had our wireless knowledge millions of years ago.” H. H. Turner, Professor of Astronomy at Oxford University, expressed a similar view. He says it is conceivable, though unlikely, that Martians, if there are any, have tried to attract attention on the earth with signals which were never perceived and desisted long ago in despair. “There seems practically a certainty,” he adds, “that the histories of Mars and the earth are not marching in parallel. "A team of astronomers has found that Venus has never been habitable, despite decades of speculation that our closest planetary neighbor was once much more like Earth than it is today. The researchers, from the University of Cambridge, studied the chemical composition of the Venusian atmosphere and inferred that its interior is too dry today for there ever to have been enough water for oceans to exist at its surface. Instead, the planet has likely been a scorching, inhospitable world for its entire history. The results, reported in the journal Nature Astronomy, have implications for understanding Earth's uniqueness, and for the search for life on planets outside our solar system. While many exoplanets are Venus-like, the study suggests that astronomers should narrow their focus to exoplanets which are more like Earth." #venus #water

In this piece, I explore the awe-inspiring Fermi Bubbles and their significance in unraveling the mysteries of our Milky Way galaxy. While space science isn't my primary focus, my deep passion for astronomy and the cosmos inspired me to write about this fascinating topic. Writing this article allowed me to dive into various theories about the origins of these colossal gamma-ray structures and their impact on our understanding of the universe.
