It will get better, quickly.
Nigel Fox thinks the recruitment sector is coming out of the hardest times. The mistakes you've made and learned from are going to hold you in good stead going forwards.
Stick to:
- Your operating model principles
- Operating profits
- Long term thinking
Any kind of final thoughts you might have for, for, for our listeners who are mainly recruitment company leaders, owners, CEO's who might be during their own challenges and troubles. You know what, what, what, what comes of comfort might you give them about the the road that lies ahead? I think if you've if you've never been in this situation before, because there will be lots of people, like most people in my business, right? There was like a just there wasn't really a downturn for. 12 years or something, right? So most people working in industry, a lot of people in the industry have never been through anything like this. I think the, the crumbs of comfort, if you like, ohh, they will end and it will get better. It'll get better quite quickly. And you know, the things you just need to tell yourself is like whatever the mistakes are that you made, and I'm sure we've all made some, that you learn from those and that you try to put yourself in a situation where you maintain enough discipline that those things don't happen again in the future. Don't make the same mistakes. It's hard not to. You know, in particular, I think things like salary growth in the recruitment sector over the course of the, the boom during COVID was ludicrous. It was self evidently never sustainable. And and you know, we, we made some good choices around that period in time and not everybody did. And I understand that, particularly if you never been there before, but stick to basic principles around your, around your operating models, your operating profits should always be kind of foremost you should be thinking in terms of. Long term in the round, you know, what is a, what is a reasonable number for, you know, for any given consultant to be generating? Can't assume that the person who's billed 500 grand this year is necessarily going to build 500 grand next year. It's not how it works. And it's just thinking about, I think about thinking about things in the long term rather than just right now it's great. Right now it's terrible. If you do that, your chances are you'll be OK.
Wise words Nigel Fox. Great to see you Andy Simpson. Been a very long time!
