NXP unveils industry-first ultra-wideband wireless BMS NXP Semiconductors’ Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless battery management system (BMS) simplifies EV assembly, enables higher energy density, and decouples mechanical and electrical development for faster time to market. Trimension UWB provides higher resistance to reflections and frequency-selective fading within the battery pack than existing narrow-band technologies, resulting in more robust and reliable data transfer. It uses high-bandwidth pulses instead of a modulated carrier frequency (sinusoidal signal) as used in 2.4 GHz narrowband technologies. The solution is part of NXP’s FlexCom chipset, which supports wired and wireless BMS configurations using common software architecture and safety libraries. Leveraging wireless solutions minimises the use of complex wiring harnesses in the battery pack, and reduces the need for error-prone manual effort during production, which makes the assembly of EVs more efficient and reduces lifecycle costs. The elimination of connectors and wiring between battery cells allows for increased energy density, which is a key parameter in EV design and performance to enable longer range. NXP’s UWD system is available for OEMs to start evaluation and development in Q2 2025. The solution is part of NXP’s FlexCom chipset, which supports wired and wireless technologies. Vishay's new IGBT and MOSFET drivers with extended SO-6 packaging achieve compact design, quick switch and high voltage. MALVERN, Pennsylvania, United States, Shanghai, China - October 24, 2024 - A few days ago, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. ( NYSE stock market code: VSH) announced the launch of two latest IGBT and MOSFET drivers with compact, high-isolation extension SO-6 packaging - VOFD341A and VOFD343A. The peak output currents of Vishay VOFD341A and VOFD343A reach 3 A and 4 A respectively, the operating temperature is as high as +125 C, and the propagation delay is as low as 200 ns. The optical coupler released today contains an AlGaAs LED (which is connected to an integrated circuit with a power output level by optical coupling, which is used for solar inverters and micro inverters), AC and brushless DC industrial motor control inverters, and for AC/DC conversion in UPS. Inversing level. The device is very suitable for directly driving IGBT with a rated value of 1200 V/100 A. The high operating temperature supported by VOFD341A and VOFD343A provides a higher temperature safety margin for a more compact design, and the high-peak output current of the device can achieve faster switching without additional drive levels. The propagation delay of the device is low, which can minimize the switching loss and help to carry out more precise PWM adjustment. The high isolation package of the optocoupler can support a high working voltage of up to 1140 V, so it can be used at the high-voltage inverter level while maintaining sufficient voltage safety margin. These devices comply with RoHS specifications and can support up to 50 kV/μs anti-interference, thus preventing the descent function in the fast switching power level. VOFD341A and VOFD343A are now available in samples and have been mass-produced, with an order cycle of six weeks.
