Shackleton’s challenge There is this famous story of Ernest Henry Shackleton, known as a polar explorer who was associated with four expeditions exploring Antarctica, particularly the Trans-Antarctic Expedition that he led in early nineteenth century, which, although unsuccessful, became famous as a tale of remarkable perseverance and survival.. Shackleton invited individuals to join him on an insurmountable challenge with no guarantee of a safe return and no promise of a high salary or reward. What he did promise was the chance to attempt something that no one had done before and to be amongst the few to achieve something that very few in the world even thought to attempt ! The history is that he did get lot of takers who accompanied him on the voyage. But today’s post is not for that, will talk of that sometime later. Today I want to highlight that everytime I talk about this story with passionate leaders, they love the example and want to find such team members who are equally passionate and willing to give their best for the larger cause. My challenge to the leaders is how do you identify them and then what do you do to them to keep them as passionate? It takes a higher order of challenge to keep them engaged. Leaders will have to constantly raise the bar for them and oneself ! It’s one thing to find such people but another to keep them fully engaged and committed for long ! And that's great if your use case is generic or if you really want to visualize your customers standing at an airport gate screaming into their phones "I AM NOT ON THE PLANE. TAP DOES NOT HAVE A SEAT FOR ME". You really need to think if instead you're trying to build real systems around AI. For us, that covers a few dimensions of interactions: - With our direct clients, Fraud Fighters shaping their responses to potential attacks. - With valid customers, who we want to help buy product as easily as possible. - With fraudsters, who we want to stop right away. - And with the world in between, where we want to acknowledge the uncertainty and gain more insight.
