I am happy to announce that our advanced UAV, designed and developed by my amazing team, has completed its maiden flight! Building on the achievements highlighted in my previous post, this UAV exceeded our expectations during its first flight. Operating in manual mode, without auto-stabilization, the aircraft was stable, energy-efficient, and flew like a dream. Thanks to a pair of purposefully designed wing tips, we effectively eliminated wingtip vortices, as confirmed by our CFD analysis. Major contributors to this drag reduction were the minimalistic design approach featuring a boom fitted with an aerodynamic pod and the airfoil types used on the wings and tail fins. The folding propeller significantly minimized drag during gliding and provided protection to the propeller during landing—a feature that worked flawlessly! The high-lift coefficient airfoil performed exceptionally well, generating ample lift for our sleek design, and the most exciting part—our UAV was whisper quiet, even at altitudes as low as 20 meters. This success marks a significant step forward for us, and I am incredibly proud of the work we've accomplished as a team.
