Next time you see someone “jaywalking” instead of crossing at an intersection, please understand that this behavior is often a calculation of risk and not a “death wish”. Our roads, and especially our intersections, are #DangerousByDesign - designed for the purpose of moving vehicles as quickly and efficiently through space, often at the expense of humans who are not protected by two tons of metal. We can and should address our road violence crisis through design and policy changes. It is simply unacceptable and immoral that we have the solutions to prevent thousands of deaths and serious injuries every year and fail to implement proven solutions at a more rapid pace.
Excellent graphic on how U.S. intersections often fail pedestrians. No turn on reds, leading pedestrian intervals, near-side signals and high-visibility crosswalks can reduce these types of pedestrian crashes.

1. Is reducible by prohibiting RTOR, preferably by statute. 2. Is reducible through the use of red light cameras. As for speed in general, the same time mean speed technology that effectively results in absolute speed compliance through highway work zones in the UK is all it would take to get urban speeds down in Canadian towns and cities. It just takes political will.

This, right here is why pedestrians are crossing at midblock locations and getting struck at higher speeds. 5 conflict points at intersection vs 2 at midblock. Add to that, long distances between signalized crosswalks, leads to more midblock crossings.

This is a great article by The Wall Street Journal and @Yaroslav Trofimov. Operating in a #GPSdenied environment was considered to be a solved challenge a few years ago... until the ongoing wars in #Ukraine and #Israel. Wonder Robotics' #WonderLand #GPSdenied solution for drones is impressive and allowing us to support the most critical need for the #warfighter nowadays . https://lnkd.in/e44zZqD2

The conflict in Ukraine highlights a stark reality: we’re investing billions of dollars in autonomy and drones, and without an equally innovative and secure communications systems—it will be a waste. The #Ukraine war is also just a small preview compared to the size and scope of #autonomy and communications capabilities necessary in a potential conflict in the #Pacific theater. We must get this right, and quickly. #dualuse #defensetech #21stcenturyoffset
