Let’s celebrate today’s International Women’s Day! 🎉 At Wemos, we are proud to be part of the Make Way programme. Make Way aims to break down barriers to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), particularly for women and youth, by promoting intersectional advocacy for SRHR. Many women and girls lack the right and autonomy to make their own choices when it comes to their health and to access life-saving SRHR information and services. We need strong health systems to ensure the health and wellbeing of each of us, yet these systems require sufficient funding and resources to provide quality sexual and reproductive health services for everyone. UN Women state that there remains an alarming lack of financing for gender-equality measures, including for reproductive health, with a deficit of USD $360 billion. Make Way calls on governments worldwide to invest in resilient health systems to ensure that women and girls can access the SRHR information and services that they need. #InvestInWomen #IWD2024 #MakeWay #SRHR Akina Mama wa Afrika FAWE Liliane Fonds nudor rwanda VSO Nederland Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken 📸 Photo by Git Stephen Gitau via Pexels

Demand Equity: Protect Women's Rights in Crises Did You Know? Over half of preventable maternal deaths occur in crisis-affected countries – nearly 500 daily. Take a Closer Look UNFPA supports women and girls' access to health care and protection during crises but needs more funding to expand impact. What You Can Do Call on global leaders to fund UNFPA, supporting women and girls' to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Women and girls in conflict settings are more likely to die due to lack of access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Yet, they are often neglected. Gender-based violence, unsafe abortions, and inadequate obstetric care are among the main concerns related to SRHR in crisis contexts. Access to SRHR is further restricted in humanitarian settings, due to lockdowns and other barriers like reduced mobility and social distancing, hindering access to health facilities. Additionally, the systems and institutions that normally provide SRHR services are weakened or destroyed by crises, resulting in inadequate service delivery. UNFPA works to support women and girls have access to essential health care, protection from violence, and the ability to exercise their reproductive rights, even amid crises. Global leaders must fund UNFPA to protect the rights of women and children in crisis contexts. Leave your message to global leaders urging them to fund UNFPA’s urgent humanitarian appeal to get life-saving support to women and girls in crisis. #DemandEquity #WomenRights #MaternalDeaths #UNFPA #HealthAndRights #SRHR

check out our #SeeMe campaign! Let's get the word out about intersectionality for health equity and justice!
📢 Calling on policymakers to use an intersectional approach to ensure SRHR for all! 🌍 Everyone needs access to healthcare, including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Yet, many people are left behind because of, for instance, their gender, sexuality, financial situation and social status. This needs to change. Over the past couple of months, Make Way and partners have shared the stories of trailblazers who are paving the way in SRHR by using an intersectional approach. So that those who are often excluded when it comes to policies, services and information are finally seen. We hope that these stories from youth, journalists, religious leaders and civil society have brought to light the power of intersectionality and the need for its application in SRHR. A big thank you to all our partners who collaborated Akina Mama wa Afrika, The Circle, Cheshire Disability Services Kenya, Liliane Fonds, FAWE RS, VSO Nederland Access to Medicines Platform Diverse Empowerment Foundation Impanuro Girls Initiative (IGI) & more. Today we were delighted to co-host a webinar with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on how National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) could integrate sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) into human rights monitoring and reporting. Over 25 NHRI and 20 UNFPA country representatives joined to hear both how they could do work on this crucial topic and address all aspects of SRHR, including gender-based violence, sexual and maternity health, and access to information and education on the topic. After the opening from ENNHRI’s Secretary-General, Debbie Kohner, participants heard insights on and explored strategies for effectively integrating SRHR into #humanrights frameworks. In this context, they heard from Emilie Filmer-Wilson, Human Rights Adviser at UNFPA, about using the UNFPA's Guidance Note for NHRIs – a tool developed to support #NHRIs in monitoring and addressing SRHR violations. Jasminka Džumhur, Human Rights Ombudsperson of Bosnia and Herzegovina, also presented a case study on applying the UNFPA tool in her national work. This showcased its implementation in real-world scenarios to enhance SRHR monitoring and advocacy. Read the UNFPA guidance note here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eTDYvt2c This collaborative event highlighted the power of partnerships 🤝 to advance human rights and foster a space for NHRIs to share challenges, successes, and innovative practices in promoting and protecting rights across #Europe.

From decades running programs for adolescents and youth, we know that young people’s perspectives must drive the solutions and innovations meant for them. In #Pakistan, Pathfinder is a partner on the USAID-funded Frontier Health Markets (FHM) Engage project, which seeks to make health markets responsive, equitable, resilient, and driven by consumer needs. FHM Engage conducted a comprehensive market analysis to develop context-specific solutions to barriers young people face when trying to access contraception and reproductive healthcare. This included forming a youth council to ensure solutions are “for the youth, by the youth.” The result is “BOLO Health,” a digital health marketplace developed through a #PrivateSectorPartnership with Oladoc, a digital aggregator in the health system. BOLO Health delivers tailored health services, information, and products to young people online. 📢 Blog Alert! SRHR is a LINCHPIN for Future Proofing Asia and the Pacific Our latest blog reflects on the 30th anniversary of the ICPD Programme of Action and its vital role in achieving just and sustainable development. As the Summit of the Future approaches this month, we emphasize the critical importance of the inclusion of sexual and reproductive health and rights to ensure a balanced, ambitious, action-oriented, and forward-looking Pact for the Future outcome document. ✊Our Role at CPD 57: At the 57th Commission on Population and Development (CPD57), APA, IPPF ESEAOR, FP 2030 Asia and the Pacific, Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa, DIVA for Equality FIJI , IPPF, South Asia Region, Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM), and Tsao Foundation organized the side event, “Building Momentum for ICPD: Championing Investments in Asia and the Pacific”, which provided a much needed platform for civil society to engage in CPD discussions. APA and APA members also delivered Oral Statements, addressing demographic shifts and inequalities, while advocating for forward-looking SRHR solutions. The Moment for Accountability is NOW. The third revision of the Pact of the Future was released with reference to SRH and RR and underlining the importance of including women, girls and gender diverse people. We call on governments to ensure SRHR is at the core of the outcomes, fostering solidarity and action during this critical time of global transformation. 👉 Read more here: https://buff.ly/3XhyD79 #ICPD30 #CPD57 #SRHR4ALL #SummitOfTheFuture

30 years ago, 179 countries committed to a strong agenda on SRHR, again emphasized in the SDGs at the International Conference on Population and Development. This agenda remains unrealized for most young people, and girls especially. Now is the time to reorient our priorities; placing adolescent rights and voices at the heart of renewed action.
