The Lib Dems have launched their manifesto. Some key policies for tourism: A commitment to 'upgrade the status of tourism in government with a dedicated Minister of State for Tourism and Hospitality.' A commitment to expand Youth Mobility to more countries, to 35yo, to three years duration, and abolishing fees for YMS visas. A commitment to 'end the sewage scandal' and legally binding targets to prevent dumping to bathing waters. Investment to make the the UK the world leader in zero carbon flight. BUT Banning some domestic flights and a moratorium on airport expansion. An increase in council tax to 500% for 'second home owners'. Thank you to Inverness Chamber of Commerce for organising last night's hustings. It is concerning that none of the candidates were aware of the fact that the UK ranked 116th out of 117 on cost competitiveness for visitors.* We can only hope they follow through on promises made after the event that they will do their homework on it...and will then see fit to make commitments to lessen the ever-increasing burden on the tourism and hospitality industry. Whilst it is the responsibility of Holyrood and not Westminster, the introduction of the Tourism Visitor Levy, which Highland Council have committed to implementing, will only serve to exacerbate the cost competitiveness for the Highlands...not only with other countries but other parts of the UK, and potentially other parts of Scotland who may choose to introduce a lower rate or no TVL at all! Some Enterprise Agreements negotiated by the FSU give you the option to commemorate Australia Day on a different date, if it’s your preference. Substituting a public holiday must be agreed upon with your employer, so check your Agreement or Award and start the conversation.

Well, someone needs to tell them that its already 3rd of May and not the 1st of April. In an interesting turnaround of events, the hike in living cost to AUD 29710 stealthily posted on the Home Affairs Website yesterday has gone back to the previous numbers AUD 24505 this morning.  Did someone at the Australian Home Affairs change the numbers without any authority previously or Has someone done it now? Whatsoever, this outrageous incident and changes being introduced overnight really puts a huge question mark on the credibility of the Australian Home Affairs.  Well, the world deserves a proper explanation through a public announcement, if not earlier then at least now ! Controversial Tucker Carlson seems to take a journalistic approach to his visit to Australia. https://lnkd.in/gRzr2QbF He conveys some wild ideas: - housing crisis is due to simple supply and demand (not from local birth rate but from government allowing excessive immigration). How that objective measure cannot be called "racism" - recognising our great country and the contribution each Australian has made to making it great. An interesting idea below, moving the control for asylum accommodation away from central Government and towards the community. Do you think this could improve the standards of accommodation for asylum seekers? Lots of logistical questions crop up in my head, how would standards be enforced, how would suitability be assessed? There's no easy and obvious solution, but the importance of having a secure and safe place to live when fleeing persecution and waiting for your claim to be processed can't be understated.
