Are your grazing arrangements due a spring clean? As we see the long-awaited return of the longer and (hopefully) warmer days of spring and summer, many clients attention will turn to how their grassland is managed. Those who do not own livestock or equipment to manage grazing land will be looking to reconnect with graziers or in fact find new graziers for the coming season. Whilst the initial thought can often be given over to getting the grass under control, it is often prudent to review the terms of the agreement. Frustrations and ultimately cost can be avoided by ensuring the agreements are up to date. You can read more about grazing licences and the importance of having a well drafted document in our latest blog post here: https://lnkd.in/eMMaE8ys

🎧 Nikki, PfL's Head of Research, discusses her approach to beef production with the #ScotlandOutdoorsPodcast on BBC Sounds. 🗣 PfL certified Grampian Graziers uses a variety of methods, such as bale grazing and deferred grazing, to increase biodiversity for the landowner while reducing input costs. The farm's cattle are kept outside all year round and eat nothing but the pasture and hay, with no barley, concentrates, grain, or imported feed. By keeping the cattle moving with low-input farming methods and avoiding overstocking and overgrazing, 116 kilos of carbon are offset for every kilo of beef produced, according to the linear measuring tool. This doesn't even account for the grassland making it much more. We can grow really species rich grassland in the UK, but we've lost 90% of this since the Second World War, pasture-fed farming systems can reverse this trajectory. Grampian Graziers supermarket price match their always sold out beef. Their pasture-fed meat is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which is protective of human health. They are in the process of testing the meat for other nutrient content. #livestockfarming #livestock #cattle #scottishfarming https://lnkd.in/eAd2ixEK

I don’t know who this guy is but he gets it right and to the point right away. The two key points here are there is a significant amount of land that is only suitable for livestock and when that livestock is managed holistically it’s one of the best tools we have. https://lnkd.in/gmF7zRVu

I'll go through the stages of the process, what I have learnt and tell you as much as I can. However if you are hoping for a quick easy option to achieve your own leather that doesn't currently exist, its a very challenging sector, so manage your expectations! #pastureforlife

A recovery period is the time when the plant is not exposed to livestock. This is a period of regrowth for the plant. How do recovery periods vary? 🍂 Seasonally: During drought and freezes, plants recover slower than during the rainy, warm seasons. 🌎 Locationally: Plants located by water sources or at lower elevations can recover faster than plants on high ground, further from water sources. Learn how to properly graze your pastures to get the most out of your recovery periods in our Noble Grazing Essentials course in Kingsville, Texas, Nov. 13-15. https://lnkd.in/eqtdvG7s

The planning for Dairy Holdings winter grazing begins over 12 months before the first mouthful of crop is eaten. Crop rotations and soil tests are carefully considered before final paddock selection is confirmed. Our strategy for being self-contained for grazing means about 2,500 hectares of winter crop is sown down to ensure we have enough feed for our livestock over winter. We’re dedicated to looking after the environment and our animals. During winter this means we follow best practice such as buffer zones and back fencing while ensuring animals are well feed and happy every day. #nzdairyfarmer #dairyholdings #nzdairyfarming #dairyfarming #winteringcows

Preconditioning helps calves adjust to weaning, feedlot Maximize Your Program with Excell™ All-Natural Program needs to include time to get extra weight on cattle, to overcome cost of poor performance in first week after weaning. A preconditioning program is a plan to help with the transition of calves as they go through weaning — and before they go to a feedlot — to spread out some of those added stresses. https://ow.ly/pfol50SNcGe #excellallnatural #preconditioning #weaning
