As a team, we have risen to the ever-increasingly difficult challenge of getting a 'sound' local plan in place. Undertaking a review of a plan only adopted in 2017 - through changing political leadership and countless changes to the national framework and guidance. We've dutifully cooperated on strategic matters and put forward a spatial strategy containing not one but two new garden communities. Certainly no mean feat. Now the plan's fate rests with the elected Members, through a series of meetings next week, culminating in a decision at Full Council. A new €10 levy on soil and stone from construction sites is set to add thousands of euros to new home prices 🏘️ The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications has clashed with industry operators, giving a 14-week notice that the levy exemption will end on September 1st. Operators must now use specialised recycling facilities, which are reportedly scarce and face planning delays. The levy could nearly double the cost per truckload of waste. For example, a 98-unit development in south Dublin would see an increase an €550,000 in project costs, adding €5,612 per unit.
